So, I'm part of this
sci fi spectacular at the NAC. Most of the costumed folk were in Star Wars getup since they're our
local 501st garrison, but a few of us had been invited out to represent starfleet. Original series!
It was totally awesome. Our job was to wander around in the crowd, mingle, and pose for pictures. I took a tribble around with me and it proved to be a great ice breaker: lots of people came over to pet it, or joke about how I should have a bucketful, or ask what they were called 'cause it was just on the tip of their tongue... Had a wonderful time chatting with people and adding to the ambiance. The free ticket to see the orchestra is obviously quite a lot of enticement (I love this stuff!) but I'd have done it anyhow if I'd realised how amazingly fun it would be to wander around in costume for the evening.
The highlight, though, was that as we walked back in to the dressing rooms, George Takei was coming out of his, and he stopped to chat, make jokes about the redshirts and how we needed more peace and less weaponry, and shake hands with us all. He is totally awesome in person, and we were all giddy as we headed out. :)
