Winnipeg (Day 4) -- Much nicer than advertised!

Last night, I was up in the pub 'till 1 chatting with a new friend. Good times. That's one of my favourite things to do at a conference!

And then I had to get up just after 7 this morning to go to the sessions I wanted to see. Ouch! That was a lot of immunology in the morning...

This afternoon, I managed to convince some of the guys to blow off the last afternoon of the conference go for a walk... for around 4 hours, maybe more. Another one of my favourite things to do at conferences!

(Okay, both of those things are probably on my list of favourite things to do ever.)

We walked from the conference centre out to the legislature, then along near the flooded river to the Forks and wandered around there for a while. It was a pretty relaxed walk -- we'd go for a while 'till we found something interesting, then sit and chat and take pictures or wade in the river or get ice cream or watch a train or just enjoy the area. Much laughing and geeking out in our various ways (we are a bunch of mathematicians, roughly), as well as trading stories and goofing around with the various things we found in the city. Eventually we headed back to the hotel, grabbing some dinner nearby, and seeing the guys with the 8pm flights off. I lost my final travelling companion at this point and went a-wandering myself for a bit longer, taking photos of amusing public art along Portage before deciding that maybe I should turn in early too.

Winnipeg has been *amazing* and I haven't seen a single mosquito despite dire warnings from the locals that they'd be out in force since the rain has stopped! The weather here is perfect. The temperature was lovely, the wind was refreshing, the sun gorgeous... I really couldn't have asked for a nicer day to be out walking with some new friends! I almost wish I were leaving tomorrow morning just because I can't imagine a more perfect way to end a conference, but I'm here for one more day on my own. I'm hoping to do some touristy stuff, though, or at least enjoy sleeping in :)
