Watchmen
I just saw Watchmen. It's rather faithful and it's very pretty. They had to cut about half of it to keep it down to the really long run time the movie has anyway, and without fail, they cut the least memorable half. The plot changes are pretty minor and I agree with them. I loved the soundtrack.
I feel a little bit like I did about the first two Harry Potter movies. The movie was slavishly devoted to the source material in a way that kept it from being great. It has a quality more of a portrait than a recreation. I thought Zach Snyder did a more inventive job directing Watchmen than Chris Columbus did with Harry Potter. The opening sequence and the starting credits of Watchmen are really clever and cover a lot of narrative ground quickly and interestingly.
