Every so often, I post a question here about a technical issue and hope the more familiar people who read my journal will be able to offer some kind of advice. I just thought I'd recognize a few of the people who've helped.
- In 2004, I upgraded a computer by hand, and it didn't work when I was done. The problem was that I didn't seat my CPU fan properly, which I didn't realize and thus didn't report. unixronin gets credit for asking me about it and leading me to figure out I had the wrong sort of RAM, which was another problem.
- A few months ago, my windows machine crashed. I tried swapping out drives, but whatever drive was in the machine didn't work. I was convinced it was the motherboard. luvcraft and unixronin both get credit for shedding doubt on that false theory, but midiamin gets full credit for suggesting I check the memory.
- Most recently, I asked about gnome-pilot. unwiredben midiamin and paeyl all suggested I used something else. They all get equal credit for convincing me gnome-pilot doesn't work.
anda iphy ilcylic and
tquid also deserve credit for answering various points. It's as much luck as anything else to provide the answer, since, generally, I omit some crucial piece of information.
