So. I've always shied away from the idea of getting an account on LJ. Everyone I ever knew in high school who had one used it for one of the following:
a.) Bitching.
b.) Emo poetry.
c.) Both.
I didn't really fancy that idea, so I never gave in to my peers' wheedling for me to sign up. They did manage to get me to make a MySpace account, which I then proceeded to never use (except when I went through a brief stage of posting emo poetry, thanks to my throroughly stupid and angsty relationship of the time). I have refused, and still refuse, to get a Facebook.
So what changed my mind? Well, first of all, no one bugs me about making one anymore. Secondly, I no longer feel in danger of being an emo poetry kid. Finally, it seemed to me like a good way to stop being so much of an internet lurker. The idea of a blog or website of my own has been niggling at me for a while; plus, it seems like the safest place to meet people who RP or to post my writing if I ever feel like doing so again (oh my god FF.net/Gaia Online what did you do to my youth).
Also, my professor has been telling me to start a journal, and I am waaaay lazy about doing any writing anywhere but on my laptop anymore.
At any rate, we'll see if I can actually keep this up. I need a good stress reliever in my life. Not to mention a hobby. ...And a life.
