What's the first thing you can remember, with any clarity?

I remember churning butter with my mum and making corn husk dolls with my dad.

Did you...? Did you weave them hair, and braid their sashes?

They used to do that, oh, ever so long ago, when I was alive.

I did. An' sew little seeds and shells onto their dresses.

Just as it should be. I expect they were lovely.

We didn't have shells; but there were beads.
