"I thought you looked familiar..."

Ah, my dissonant Thursday shows.

Ugly Betty -
  • Oh, Betty. How ironic is it that of all the fashion choices you've made, the big shiny button is the thing that makes you balk?
  • Oh, Daniel. Clearly you learned nothing last week. The head-thwaping shall commence shortly.
  • When this program first started, I thought it would be the Betty & Daniel Show with a quaint roster of minor sidekicks. Turns out that these people know how to write for an ensemble cast and they're really good at it.
  • Hilda just rocks. I love that she's the one who knew immediately, instinctively to turn down Wilhemina's money whilst Betty was the one hesitantly considering it. I'm ashamed to admit that's not what I was expecting and feel like I should be apologizing for doubting Hilda's integrity.
  • While I get that Amanda may have had a sharp reality check in regards to her relationship with Daniel last week, I'm not sure that I get why she suddenly felt the need to confront him this week. I think it's more the pacing of the episodes -both between and within them- than a characterization issue though.
  • Totally not buying Nico as a child young enough for boarding school. I honestly thought she was in her mid to late twenties when she was introduced last week. College-age, I might have gone for - but mid-teens? Um, no.
  • The Bradford/Fey storyline just gets more nonsensical every week. But fun. I agree with the back-alley detective that Bradford is going crazy.
  • The Ignacio storyline just gets darker every week. Those were some unexpected twists.
  • Why am I spending any time whatsoever trying to decipher what's going on in the intra-telenovela? Why?
  • As has become typical in the past couple of episodes, there wasn't nearly enough Betty/Daniel interaction for me, but I love that Wilhemina has realized just how much Betty props him up. Take Betty out of the picture and she knows that Daniel's already impressively self-destructive tendencies will simply run unchecked until he flames out in some spectacular disaster.

    Supernatural
  • Oh, fandom. Y'all are some crazy people. There's nothing quite so entertaining as watching fandom go boom when you don't actually care about the topic.
  • Oh, Dean. Much love for being the older brother, as usual. That lecture to Jo in the hallway was spot on. That's when it occurred to me that he really is considerably older than her. He's supposed to be about 28 now (though with this show's wonky grasp of time as a specific linear process, it's hard to be sure). If Jo is supposed to still be in college, I'd put her at nineteen or so. That’s a bit of a gap.
  • Oh, Sammy. Were you even in this one? That's what you get when your alter-ego is lacking in grace. Poor Jared.
  • I was suitably creeped out by Jo being locked in a metal crypt-like box, but most of the prior ghostly set-up had me wondering when Eugene Tooms would be putting in an appearance.
  • I continue to like Ellen. She's perfectly fine with other people's kids out hunting the beasties, but no way is her baby going to choose to do it too. A perfectly plausible maternal flip-out under the circumstances.
  • But I don't entirely buy that John is totally to blame for why William is dead. John may be a screw-up at a lot of things, but screwing things up mid-hunt really isn't his MO. I'm guessing that William did his own share of misstepping somewhere in there too. But I'm okay with Ellen believing her version and passing it on to Jo. She'd just had a massive scare and it was probably a knee-jerk reaction. Still with both parties to the incident currently "dead", I'm guessing that theory will just have to go into the Fanon Assumptions pile.
  • A cement truck. That's just... Hee!
  • And I have to admit, I'm okay with Jo. I think she needs to grow up a bit, but that's what this episode was all about. I expect we'll have to put up with a bit more familial drama between her and Ellen, but this show is pretty good with the realistic family dynamics, so I think I'll keep the faith that this'll work out fine.
