"A rose by any other name..."

Much fun was had by all yesterday at the aquarium. Except, perhaps, for the moment in the 4D movie in which Nieceling #2 completely freaked out at being spritzed in the face, having air puffed at the back of her neck, electric fish with great big teeth flying straight at her, and me flailing beside her because I swear something smacked me on the side of the head. So yeah, that was fun. Fortunately it was a short film and near the end anyway. No permanent trauma done. I think. We never seem to be able to make it through one of these without one of the Dorklings spazzing, but it's always a different one. I think it might be a specific age thing - right around 4 years old. It was about this time last year that Nieceling #1 was the one who spazzed while the two younger ones were just fine. Maybe it's something about the level of their grasp on reality and certain expectations of what ought to happen in a movie theatre?

Wonderfully low volume meant that the Dorklings could press their little noses and grimy hands on the glass of every single exhibit they wanted to see. The Boy charmed all aquarium employees with his carrying around of a large green notebook and assiduously taking utterly random notes at various exhibits.

Then we had lunch in Centennial Park. First there was the playground where the Dorklings promptly decided for no apparent reason to play pirates. Then up the hill to the fountains where the Dorklings ended up in about half a dozen tourist families' photos as they ran around like little mad things dodging the waterspouts. Well, the three older ones did. Nieceling #3 sat placidly and ate her lunch with exceeding slowness and occasional comments of "They all wet." She, out of all of them, detests being messy. Which is ironic as she is the one who tends -as she did on the way to the aquarium yesterday- to draw on herself when bored. (According to Nieceling #1, "she's really good at scribbles.") When we got back to the van, Nieceling #3 informed me that she didn't want The Boy to help buckle her in as he usually does. "He have messy hands. He all wet."

Quick comment on Bones. Yay, I did get my shiny show back! Much better balance to the characterizations this week. And both Angela and Booth clueing Cam in to the reality of what continuing to piss off Bones would bring her? Hee! Absolutely beautiful. And just as a random, general comment on David Boreanez... I've always thought he's good-looking, but these days, he's looking more and more like a very handsome grown-up than just a gorgeous pretty-boy.

And finally, does anybody have DirecTV? Is it any good? The only reason I'm considering it is that I can get all the channels I already have, plus BBC America, for exactly what I'm paying Comcast right now. (There would be other new channels too, of course, but BBCA is the only one I actually care about.) Does it really still get reception in the rain? Do they hike the rates more than twice a year? How tacky is the dish? It is a dish, isn't it? Is it worth the effort to get pretty much the same thing I already have with the added bonus of not knowing how reliable the new company is?
