Classes begin tomorrow! This year, I am not ready. So we won't talk about that. Instead, I spent the weekend pulling apart the big loom, cleaning and lubricating all the parts that rub up against each other, especially those that were causing one of the shafts to stick. It's very annoying to have that happen one yard into a four yard warp. (I would post pictures, but I'm very annoyed with the photo website that I've been using and haven't gotten around to opening a Flikr account.)
And then there was sewing. I almost finished a jacket that has been languishing on my dining room table. I cut out the pieces a month or more ago, but had never gotten around to sewing it together.
I'll blame the weather for my procrastination. The sky was grumbling all day yesterday, last night and even this morning. In a way, it sounded like a bunch of grouchy, tired faculty during finals week....grumble, rumble, grumble. All day! I don't think my cat came out from under the couch except for the five minutes she needed to use the litter box and to scarf down some dinner.
I'm still waiting to hear back from one of the agents who requested my book proposal. I'm guessing it will be another couple of weeks or so. The other two have emailed me back "Nicely written, but not for me" sort of replies that included some useful feedback. I'll mull over what to do next with the manuscript if I get the same response from the third agent. I think there's hope for it, but it might require a thoughtful restructuring.
And, of course, while I've been waiting around for those responses, other projects have started popping into my head. Some are smaller and a bit less daunting than others. I think I'll just stand over there (points to a quiet corner of the brain) and watch them duke it out. While that happens, I'll be putting together what I need to write a major NSF grant whose deadline is coming up and a seminar at a major university (that will be skyped to a second campus O.O) that I'll be presenting in the spring. If that sounds very far away, I know that these things have an unsettling ability to sneak up on a person.
And that's it for this month's exciting episode.
