~~~ The room was filled with a terrible silence. Tim sat in a chair, his father and Dana facing him on the couch. It was such an ordinary setting as to make the reality of how much the question entailed seem all the more horrible.
“I mean it, Tim. I want answers and I want them now. You disappear all the time, you never tell us where you’re going, you sneak out in the middle of the night, you call us at odd hours with the most unbelievable explanations of why you can’t come home just yet. Now answer the question. What are you trying to keep from us?”
Tim really wanted to tell the truth, he did, but he would be putting too many people in danger. So he thought quickly. What could he possibly say that would be believable? Something that could explain all those disappearances, something he would’ve wanted to hide, something other than being Robin. Tim brain finally clutched at a single idea that would work. Tim took a breath and prepared himself to tell the lie that would save his secret.
“Dad,” he paused, mentally wincing at what he was going to have to say, “I’m gay.” ~~~
