Psych has a musical episode.
PSYCH HAS A MUSICAL EPISODE. OMG OMG OMG.
And it was pretty great! Okay, I was so excited about the premise that perhaps my opinion on this is suspect, but I loved the spectacle of everyone singing and dancing (except of course Shawn's father Henry, who is like "NO" early in the show and doesn't show up again. He would.) Is that Timothy Omundson's actual singing voice? Because if so, the man has pipes.
I also really enjoyed the Clue episode, because it's just hard to go wrong with a Clue tribute episode, even if no one did quote the "Flames. Flames on the side of my face" line.
I actually really enjoyed this season - aside from the fact that they started using Gus more heavily as comic relief, which didn't thrill me. I was excited that Gus finally got a girlfriend who lasted for more than one episode and wasn't a serial killer, though! But then I think maybe the writers broke them up? I'm really unclear about the progression of things, Rachael was an important part of five episodes and then she went to England because visa issues and then Gus angsts and then there's... a throwaway like about how Gus is single again? When did that happen?
On the other hand, Lassiter married his convicted felon, which was awesome. OF COURSE LASSITER'S BELOVED IS A CONVICTED FELON. I have thought this was perfect ever since the episode where Marlowe was introduced.
Speaking of romance. The writers even managed to make me interested in Shawn/Juliet for two whole episodes! This has never happened before in the six and a half preceding seasons of Psych.
Naturally, these were the episodes were Juliet finally found out that Shawn was a fraudulent psychic and broke up with him with great vengeance, so it wasn't so much Shawn/Juliet I was on board with as all of Shawn's chickens coming home to roost when Juliet realized he was a lying liar who lied.
I would have happily watched the ramifications of this for another season and a half, as Shawn tried to prove himself trustworthy (and possibly became a more trustworthy person in the process?). Inevitably this would have ended with Shawn and Juliet together - the writers have been telegraphing THIS IS ENDGAME since season one, I know that the pairing is inescapable - but we could have gotten some character growth out of it!
But apparently the writers got bored of it because like four episodes later Shawn and Juliet were back together. Without even a reunion episode! One episode they're broken up but on the mend, the next episode they're living together again! What.
