HP fic recs: snupinsanta and hp_holidaygen
More fic recs, and mostly also so I can keep track of what I've been reading so far. First of all, snupin_santa is going so well--I read, then sometimes I vote especially if I feel like it's obvious (although more often that not, I later look at the comments and realize I'm wrong, I always go O_o). The fics have been wonderful, ranging from lightly humored to intensely dark. Second, the hp_holidaygen fics have also been exceptional.
But before everything, let me just pimp my own gift, the one given to me just this morning by a very mysterious author:
Auld Acquaintance Be Forgot (revealed! by fedzurl91. Lily Evans-Potter has gotten tired of being a spectator in the lives of her loved ones. Aimed with a plan and her own cunning and determination, she’s granted one month to end the loneliness she’s been watching her two best friends suffer from - by trying to bring them together before the New Year.
And I'm not only reccing this because it's for me (mine, mine, mine!) but because it's wonderful! I honestly did not think that crack prompt of mine will produce this, but it's awesome! The story unfolded without rush, Remus and Severus' budding relationship was produced without the feeling that they're just being manipulated--that they're heading towards it, but just need the right nudge (okay, more like a shove). Lily and her "partner in crime" are absolute darlings in their bickering, and Lily just PWNZ everyone--except when someone else manages to pwn her. Not to mention Harry! Draco! Ron! Hermione! I laughed out loud. In Tagalog, I have to admit I felt kilig, and it's fun because I haven't felt that way for some time now. XD
Another humor is Win Some, Lose Some (revealed! by severity_softly). Severus thinks having Remus as a colleague is unacceptable, especially when he can't seem to control his feelings toward him.
Oh boy, this fic is wonderful in its humor with just enough touch of angst. Severus is perfect in his denial, and I love how everyone--including Remus!--are going against him. And really, what is he waiting for?! The scenes are wonderfully contrived, their banterings are beautiful, and Severus in near hysterics while still being in character makes me squee!
We Should Have Loved More and Feared Less. (R, NC17) The request by odogoddess (by maelipstick): Fic - set post-Marauders, pre-series (in other words, when they're in their early 20's). Remus is ill. Snape has to take care of him, including bathing, etc. Virgin and/or constantly horny/wanking Snape a plus. Caught wanking scene (either one) a plus. Unashamedly smutty please.
I love how the writer managed to write a plot around the request, without making them feel forced to do things like puppets. Everything has a reason, and it's very wistful while also hard and dark for both Severus and Remus. And the way that their thoughts actually enter their head is so believable.
What We're Fighting For (revealed! by pixychelle). (R) During OotP or HBP, Remus gets in deep with a pack of werewolves. They build on his resentment of the oppressive Ministry laws, and he is attracted to their "alternative lifestyle." He is in danger of going feral, and Dumbledore sends Severus after him. Severus has to be "claimed" by Remus in order to keep the pack from ripping him apart. Is Severus able to convince Remus to leave the pack and rejoin the wizarding world?
Again, the writer managed to use this prompt to write a believable, wonderful, thought-provoking story. I love Dumbledore with his omniscient ideas, and how Remus cannot bear to think of him as human. The development of Severus' and Remus' relationship despite the war is slow and unhurried even with the impending doom. Most of all, I love how they share their backgrounds--not too all-consuming, but also not without pain that affect them. Most of all...oh my god, Peter! I actually sobbed. Oh my god.
I'll be reading the rest later, but for some gen fics that are found in hp_holidaygen, there are two with the same themes that I absolutely love.
Deck the Halls (revealed! by such_heights). Sirius prepares for Christmas party.
I love the Marauders here. It feels like one of those films you watch, where everyone's happy but you know in the future it won't be, yet what matters is the now. I love Sirius here; he's like a kid who just realized where "home" is, and I love the presents he gave to each of them, showing how much he thought about it. --Hey, that's not bad for someone who doesn't like Sirius, right? XD
End of an Era (revealed! by rian219).
Oh, this fic broke my heart. It's focused on MWPP and how I love that they're teenager-ish and happy, not thinking about the future. I love their pact, and it made me smile but also made me want to cry, because memories do that you. The way it was written makes it feel like a graphic novel with its fast pace, but taking enough time to make sure that each of the character is given their opportune time.
And, finally, because MWPP is not complete without Snape, here's another gen Merlin and King Arthur (revealed! by cruentum) with Snape through the eyes of an OC.
Chilling and exceptional, I love how this moved from room to room, while also focusing on memories upon memories that may or may not have occured. It says a lot about understanding a person, but also asks when and where the lines begin to blur.

Plus, there are two YnM fics I want to convince everyone to read because WOW. Tomorrow, once I finish the things I have to do. For class, the Bioarchaeology prof needed topics for papers, and I asked if it's possible to do something on coprolites (just asking if it's possible) but he turned sparkly and shiny and cried, "Yes! It would be great! Coprolites! Someone should study it!"
And everyone in the class kept smirking at me. I'm warming up on the subject.
P.S. Nope, didn't go to Ame-Matsuri in UP, even though I was within the vicinity. Cat surgery, and I was the only one available. I also had to forsake a small presentation of papers. Next time, I guess. Hope everyone who went had fun!
