Last spn_j2_bigbang art for one of my favorite pairings!

Title: That Irregular Breathing Thing
Author: monjinator at monjtales
Warnings: Non-con, abuse and physical violence, PTSD
Genre: Other Slash
Pairing(s): Chuck/Zachariah, Chuck/Castiel

Summary: AU. There’s a word for what he does, Chuck thinks as he lies face down on his bed and tries to gather enough energy to move, and it isn’t prophecy.

I enjoyed drawing this fic! When I read the fic, I noticed that there were scenes that I wanted to draw, so monjinator and I discussed that I wanted to try doing "comic-type" scenes for her.

I gratuitously grabbed the brush for Castiel's wings from Ruby-Proudfoot's DA. I tried to do it in vector but...COME ON, I'm not that cool! *lol*

"I swear, I didn't know," he chokes, his feet scrabbling against the wall as only his toes touch the ground. "There were gaps in the vision, I told you that."

Eek, panels! *lol* kakyou024, blue_cage and aiah1999 are witness to how crazy I go over panels. For our dj's, I always ask them to PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help me panel that will ENHANCE the story!! *SPARKLY* Usually, they manage to curb my enthusiasm, but I tried it out again here.

"There were forces at work that might have confused your visions. But this isn't the first time that I haven't been fully prepared for events as they happen." He releases his grip and Chuck falls into a shuddering, gasping heap at his feet. "I don’t like not being prepared. It won’t happen again."

I wasn't at all satisfied with how Zachariah's face turned out, but I enjoyed inking it.

"Wait, I can’t-" Castiel’s held out hand is glowing.

Chuck stumbles backwards, trips over his own feet, and Castiel saves him from what would probably have been a nasty fall against the doorframe to the kitchen by putting out his other hand and catching Chuck neatly with a grip on his shoulder. It’s not by any means a painful grip, but Chuck's still wriggling to get out of it. "Don't-" He thrashes, flailing wildly, but all he manages to do is jerk himself upward. Right into Castiel's other hand. Which is still glowing. He has time for one harsh "No!" and then it’s all white.

Okay, so I pretty much deviated in this scene. In the fic, Castiel's hand is on Chuck's shoulder, but I really wanted to draw Castiel with his hand on Chuck's neck/face, and I sort of imagine his expression being apologetic at the necessary cruelty. So maybe this scene is while Chuck is too far gone into the vision, and Castiel is apologizing, even though Chuck can't hear him...?

"It tastes like candy," he says helpfully and takes a drink out of his own glass.

He watches as Castiel takes a drink, and the angel's eyes widen. "This tastes nothing like the alcohol Dean has given me," he says, looking at Chuck.

"Yeah, well, I expect beer and whiskey work well enough for him," Chuck says, relaxing back against the cushions of the couch.

This scene is so satisfying with the way it ended. You know the apocalypse isn't over. Somewhere, Sam and Dean are still struggling with their own demons. Chuck still has PTSD. Castiel is still fallen. Zachariah still hasn't paid for hurting people. And Jo and Ellen just died. But I like to think that it's the small moments before the end of the world that counts. And the people you spend it with.

And don't forget, the amaretto.

This was supposed to be part of the scene after Castiel uses his grace to give Chuck a vision, but I didn't like the way I inked it, so I gave up. Also, I apparently do not know how to draw toilets.

And because I needed to take a break during the art and coloring and research, I did some silly sketches that included:

I didn't even sketch the chibi where Sam inspects Castiel's missing tooth while Dean laughs his ass off.

castiel/chuck, supernatural, fanart, my geek let me show it to you
