It's a good year so far. . .

I'm in a great mood.

I had planned to post about how I got my official letter saying that for budgetary reasons I would not be given a class to teach at Brooklyn College in the spring semester a couple of days ago, but around noon I got a call from one of the English Department secretaries letting me know that Elaine, the woman who does the scheduling was trying to get in touch with me, giving me her home number.

"Wait a little while to call her, honey," she said. "She was about to go out and do some shoveling." It is snowing here in NYC.

So I waited 25 minutes and called and she had an English 2 class to offer me, a choice of three, actually! So I'll be teaching English 2 on Tuesday and Thursday from 6:30 to 7:45. English 2 is the second part of the English requirement for all Brooklyn College freshmen, and while English 1 was just a general composition class, this class focuses on writing a research paper and is supposed to have a unifed theme. In my case I plan to use feminist theory as the theme to get them kids to think about the world in a different way and question some of the assumptions about gender.

So now to figure out what I am going to have them read and come up with a syllabus and potential research paper topics.

But that's not the only reason I am in a great mood (though it is the main one right now), but I also got my letter saying that my thesis has been officially accepted, blah, blah, blah. . . I am down to one PhD application due (and that isn't due until the 15th of February), I've got a brand new laptop that is super-sweet, and I have a date tomorrow night.

Lastly, when I got my hair cut at lunch today the hairdresser was giving me flirty eyes.

It feels good to be me.

A couple of days ago I joked to my friend, "I need to go on a visionquest to get my swagger back. . ."

I feel like I am on that road.
