Last week I posted about
the difference in cathartic value between writing in a private paper journal and writing in the public forum, like a blog, but reading back through some of my old entries on here, I realized that one of the benefits of the blog is that you can avoid the overly self-indulgent aspects of the paper journal, where the total freedom and privacy works against getting distance from your subject.
For example, appended to a movie review I found
this little meditation on love and relationships, that I think I would never have written in a paper journal. Compare it to
this which I copied out of my paper journal, but written 11 years ago now. . . each serves its purpose.
