Not yet. I hope to be able to get in touch with him tomorrow some time. SO, I have no idea how he is handling it - but he entered the army knowing there was a war going on in Iraq. He can't be surprised.

Do you think it would be wrong of me to remind him that he doesn't have to go if doesn't want to? I mean, the consequences would be rough, but he could just not do it. . .
What are his options, legally? Can he still back out? I don't think it's wrong of you to remind him, as long as you do it with full respect for his final choice. Young people tend to take poorly to even the hint of someone older telling them what choice to make.
The thing is, he did volunteer for this knowing there was a war on, so I doubt that at this late date there would be anything I could do to dissuade him.

I don't think it's wrong of you to remind him, as long as you do it with full respect for his final choice. Young people tend to take poorly to even the hint of someone older telling them what choice to make.
