--well I'll think about it, I suppose.

The .... Clocks, was it?

[ Some further exchange but too muffled to be articulate and then Peter's voice, again considerably clearer: ]

All right then.

They're playing - tonight.

I hadn't heard until now.

The clocks play every hour if you would pay attention.

I pay perfect attention.

[ LOOSE definition of perfect.... ]

The Clocks are a musical group of some kind.

Perfection loosely defined, perhaps.

Should I gift you with a dictionary for better judgment?

Well, okay maybe it is, but the smile sort of undermines it. ] They're supposed to be quite good. Have you heard anyone live since arriving?

Only if you're to pen it by hand.

I paid a vagrant string quartet on the street to play something festive.

How generous of you.

[ Mild Sauce. ]

What piece did you have them play, specifically?

Well I respect the local culture and being foreign myself I wouldn't ask them to play something I know. I requested whatever it was they felt appropriate for a spirited session, they played a Black Betty.

[ It takes him a second to draw it to mind but he nods when he does. ] And did you like it?

It was festive and very lively. Of course I liked it.

I was trying not to assume.

[ For once... ]

So. Are you going, tonight?

I have never heard the clocks play in the way this vagrant string quartet did. I think I shall.
