Iruka sighed as he looked over what he had collected from the last lessons. Last week's attempt at a Valentine's-themed lesson in the spirit of the holiday had been a failure, except for a few instances. He still shuddered every time he looked at what Sai had turned out.
"All right, class, let's settle down," he said briskly, feeling strangely and inexplicably optimistic. "This week we're trying our hands at wood carving, on a small scale. Take a few minutes to sketch out what you would like to carve, if you need some time to think of any ideas...it shouldn't be too complicated. If you haven't any ideas, well..." He picked up a smooth, nicely-made wooden spoon. "This is what I made for the sample lesson. It's a simple design, and yet I still had to take much care - look how smooth and even the surfaces are. This is an exercise in symmetry."
He smiled and gestured to the front desk. "There are blocks of wood and carving materials here - sandpaper, files, knives. Yes - we are using knives, and if I see any misconduct you will be sitting detention. I trust you are all beyond that level of immaturity. Well, let's begin!"
