Kabuto was used to the hard workthat Orochimaru gave them, although he was a bit surprised. He said nothing as the new textbooks were handed out, and quietly began reading the assigned work, taking careful notes.
There was a strain in the class, a tension that was more obvious whenever he looked up at Orochimaru. Something had changed in the dynamic of thier relationship, and Kabuto didn't have to wonder very much what that was. Although how a meaningless fling could come between a teacher and a student was beyond Kabuto's understanding.
God help him, he was actually a little upset.
Kabuto was sure though, that it was nothing, that this was a passing issue, and that things would right themselves, eventually. After all, Kabuto was loyal to Orochimaru, no matter what.
Orochimaru's talent as a teacher happened to be maintaining a perpetual air of annoyance, the look of a serpent that had found a particularly delicious meal given to every student that attempted to flout a rule. Those who knew him well enough could tell when the dangerous air was more than just his daily irritation, and today that air definitely crossed the line.
He leaned back in the chair at the front of the classroom, holding a textbook up high enough to shield the majority of his face from the class, eyes scanning the room rather than the words he had already memorised. They narrowed as they caught the gaze of Kabuto, whether as a warning for him to get back to work, or something more was debatable.
Kabuto raised his eyebrow atthe stare, and of course, said nothing. He could, of course, apperciarte the fact that Orochimaru was upset overhis class being interrupted, however the fact that the line so carefully tred between daily annoyance and actual anger had actually been crossed was something to be alarmed at.
And that look on Orochimaru's face. . . Kabuto was certain something was amiss.
Going back to work, he told himself that it was nothing, that he would talk to his sensei after class and get it sorted out.
And this is where Nicole is sad that Sai and Kabuto are not in the same year.aurumophioFebruary 24 2007, 15:44:38 UTC
Seeming a little more pleased that Kabuto had returned to his work, Orochimaru kept his eyes on the boy for a few more moments, that impression that he would be watching burning from them before he returned his inattentions to the book in hand.
Well. Shit happens? XDsnakeskinviolinFebruary 24 2007, 23:53:13 UTC
Class was over, and Kabuto carefully timed it so that when he approacjed Orochimaru, the last students had left the room. He handed in his paper, and bowed.
"I noticed that you were watching me while I was working, Orochimaru-sama," he said. "Is there something that I can do for you, sir?"
Well shit will be changed next week.aurumophioFebruary 25 2007, 00:00:21 UTC
The flash across Orochimaru's face was so fast it was almost imaginary and he took his feet off of the desk when Kabuto spoke.
"I just noticed you were distracted, Kabuto-kun," he replied, face completely neutral, almost verging on peaceful, if one dared think such things. He took the paper from Kabuto's hand, glancing over it. "I don't think it is appropriate for you to become this distracted."
You are magically making Sai a junior in science?snakeskinviolinFebruary 25 2007, 00:04:53 UTC
"I'm sorry, sir," said Kabuto. "It wasn't that I was distracted, so much as I felt that something. . . was off in the classroom today." He bowed. "Forgive me sir, I did not mean to act disrespectful."
>D You'll have to wait and se~eaurumophioFebruary 25 2007, 00:09:20 UTC
A satisfied smirk at the bow and Orochimaru quickly let the excuse roll off of his tongue. "Not all weeks can be delightful, and most unfortunately this week has been a very good reminder of that. I am not pleased that I could not stay professional and leave my own irritation at home where it belongs."

Golden eyes watched Kabuto intently (they always did) and Orochimaru nodded. "I know. Your lesson is over now, you're dismissed." His tone was slightly hard as his eyes flicked to the door.
If Kabuto was more anything else, he might cry now.snakeskinviolinFebruary 25 2007, 00:25:07 UTC
It was a little shocking, the harshness in Orochimaru's tone. Kabuto's eyes widened a little, and he gave a short bow. "Of course sir," he said. "I am sorry to have bothered you."
Kabuto left the room then, wondering what he had done to Orochimaru to incure his wrath. . . .

(The anger was not directed at him, was it?)
