Be careful what you ask for

Scratch that last post.

Random, not expected, gift from God. Working at Sam Ash can pay off. I'm getting sponsored to go to Brazil for as long as I want, which will only be a few weeks in the summer, but I'm more than satisfied with that.

I'll send you a postcard.

Curitiba, Brazil in July. Thank you.

Are you SERIOUS! That is 100% cool. :) Lucky you! I've been getting more and more interested in South America lately. We have a large Latin community in our church and I totally love them all. :) What country are you from, by the way?

I'm from Switzerland.

Thanks! I'm so excited. If you're interested in going, I am staying with a Brazilion pastor who does intensive discipleship training. They are all so gracious there. He seems to be very connected in Columbia and Brazil and I'm sure he could set you up with anything you're interested in.

Swiss people are cool. :) I didn't expect that answer though--you've got dark hair! My dorm head is from Sweden but lived in Switzerland for many years. She's mostly americanized by now though. :)

Wow, thanks for the info--I really appreciate that. :D If God gives me the leading I'd probably go visit Equador or Peru--my ministry has churches there and I personally have friends in those places. I watched a video over Easter weekend about a mission trip to Caracas, Venezuela... wow. Just the response of people on the street to the Gospel really caught my heart. ♥ That was the first time I felt drawn to go to that part of the world--up till now I've been thinking mostly about eastern europe.

Yeah Eastern Europe is where my heart is, but I'm not going to pass up the oppurutnity to learn and see a new place. I still have to get through school before I can think about anything long term. Plus I want to study scripture more and get more grounded. I'm getting a degree in International Relations and once I'm done, I want to get in deep over there.

You live in Baltimore, right? One of my best friends lives there right now.

Cool! If you ever come to visit her you have to visit me too. :) What do you go to school for? Have you considered going to an international school for a semester or two? That's what I will be doing in January. :)

I almost have to go to an international school for a semester. I'm majoring in International relations and minoring in German and Religion. I'm trying to specialize in Middle Eastern studies. I want to focus on helping out national missionaries with laws in closed countries when I graduate.
I want to go to Baltimore during the summer, but I haven't planned anything yet. I would love to visit.
Where are you going in January?

Wow, that's so awesome! We definately need more people like you in our governments. :) I am good friends with a missionary who has a church in Uzbekistan--they are under great persecution there. A few months ago their peaceful church service was raided by the KGB and all their Bibles were taken away. They still don't have them back, to my knowledge. :( They have to secretly meet in a different location every week. My friend is Hungarian and married to an Uzbek, but they won't let him back into the country anymore. :( It's such an injustice... all they want is freedom ( ... )

It's so sad that situations like your friend's in Uzbekistan happen on a daily basis all over the place.
My church is planting a church in Kyrgystan right now and it's inspiring and frustrating at the same time.
The combination of hearing stories from there and reading books about national missionaries, I've started to feel an urgency for citizens of these countries and people already accustumed to the culture/language to be able to do the work within their own country. I think it's more effective and less costly. And my interest in government has lead me to a few conclusions.

Thank you so much for the invitation. That sounds amazing and I would love to go to that missionary convention. I'm taking a few online classes during the summer and work and money are always an issue, but I'm going to definitely try to arrange something.
I'm going to be in Brazil in July so that won't be a problem.
Budapest sounds amazing. I'll keep you in my prayers regarding decision making, that's something I'm always struggling with.
