Folsom Prison Blues

This journal IS no longer active but I'm working at home, as one does these days, and that means I occasionally turn on TNT's weekday Supernatural marathon. And today they were airing Season Two's "Folsom Prison Blues," which is an episode very dear to me because it marked the exact moment that I fell in love with Dean Winchester and this show. The ( Read more... )

Hi hello you don't know me but I've followed you for a few years now and love your writing. I've read Lazarus Came Forth at least half a dozen times or more and rec it to EVERYONE i meet that reads fanfic. I love it so much, and there's a paragraph towards the end, that makes me cry EVERY TIME. It's when Sam is remembering Dean putting the coat on him straight from the dryer. It's just ... well anyway, I just wanted to say that; I've wanted to for a long time but finally got the balls to actually comment. So anyway, I'd read the shit out of new fic you wrote, but i get where you're coming from about the ending. I have plenty of mixed and not mixed emotions about it all. The hate out there about it is pretty tiresome and a giant mood killer, even if I agree with some of the opinions. Well, so anyway, thanks for all your wonderful stories and sharing them like you do. Ok bye.

Hey there, thanks so much for commenting. I love Lazarus Came Forth, too -- my first SPN fic and so many good memories attached to the writing of it (such a long time ago, now). You know, one thing I loved about the finale was that the bridge scene reminded me so much of the heaven scene that came near the end of Lazarus, and even though Sam and Dean make it back from paradise alive, the story still ends the way the series did: with the two of them together and at peace. I can't hate the finale for that, I just can't. I need to nest on my unfinished fic for a little while longer--maybe I'll get the spark to pick it up again. Thanks again!

Hi, wow it's been so long since I watched Folsom Prison Blues but I think I still remember many things about it. Yes, I think the finale is not bad though of course many writers have their own ideas about it to kind of fix it.

OMG it is so good to see your name...you go back to the Lord of the Rings and Faculty days! I am starting to become amazed that there are still people here. The place looked so dead when I popped in after the finale that I took to Tumblr and that was...a pretty dismal experience. But yes, Folsom Prison Blues: a classic by any measure.

Folsom is one of my all-time favorite episodes as well. The show was so innocent back in those first two seasons. It was the last time the brothers would ever be that unburdened, worrying only about hauntings and not cosmic forces. And Dean...oh, Dean. I will never feel this way about another fictional character.

I'm still sorting through my feelings about the finale. I was gutted but not surprised by Dean dying - SPN has always danced with tragedy. I wish certain aspects of his death had been written differently and I was disappointed we didn't see Dean meeting Castiel in Heaven. But as you say, at least the brothers are together (although, knowing Dean, he'll eventually get bored and start planning a jailbreak, lol.)

I adore your writing with the passion of a thousand fiery suns and I'd give anything to see your take on the finale. I'll selfishly keep my fingers crossed but obviously, you need to do what you feel is best.

I am astounded at how quickly I've slipped back into my Deangirl ways since the finale. I can't believe he's over 40 now but beautiful as ever.

Hello!! There's still quite a few of us who loved the finale. I think balefully wrote a whole entry on it and it pretty much describes my satisacfaction with it. ❤️

I LOVE your writing and I hope you do post it so I get to read it. But if you don't, that's also ok. I'll re-read the ones you have.

Hope you are well!!

Hey there!Thank you so much for that link to balefully's post -- what a breath of fresh air that was! I need to go back and read it all through again. I don't ship Sam and Dean but I agree with so much of what she said about the finale and I'm glad to know there are actually people who loved it.

A bolt out of the blue - how lovely to see you posting here! Oh man, this show, and the early seasons in particular - still so much love for our boys. Seriously. I actually haven't been able to watch the finale again yet, even clips have me emoting all over the damn place, but I'd LOVE to read your ideas about a post finale world. I do understand your reservations though. The finale was very - final. There are a group of us (on Discord because of the diaspora) who are writing a Season 16 - canon compliant, or as close as we can get it, Gen and set between 19 and 20, because we couldn't quite get our heads around writing something after 20.

Anyway, some of us are still around, still posting occasionally, still watching re-runs. 😁

Hey there! Ah, those early years really were something else, weren't they? I didn't get on the SPN train until the summer after Season 2 aired and I watched it in seasonal reruns...there was no Netflix and the DVD boxed set was not even on sale yet! I remember literally running to Borders to buy it the day it came out.

The finale was final...and pretty perfect at the very end. There are things I would've like to see done differently but by the time our guys are together on the bridge I just...I wouldn't change a thing. So glad to find others who feel the same after months in a fandom wasteland. I would love to hear more about this Discord you speak of. :)
