inexorable adjective 1. impossible to stop or prevent.
he wakes up to screams.
luhan pants, his sweat-drench shirt sticking to his back as if it were 50 degrees outsides. a wave of panic strikes as he realizes they had been coming from him and that he’s alone in his room. all alone.
“sehun,” he whispers, the name playing around on his lips. his eyes burn, he closes them, he coughs, and when he opens them again, he feels familiar arms wrap themselves his waist. a feeling of content rises in the pit of his stomach, he cries.
“go to sleep, hyung.” the other whispers, and luhan sobs even louder before pulling the younger male closer to his chest.
“don’t leave me.” he feels pathetic.
“i won’t.” there’s a kiss placed on his forehead and luhan burns like a phoenix.
he’s asleep in seconds.
“where’s sehun?” luhan asks the room, full of bustling staff and his fellow m-members. his voice seems lost in the screeching crowd yet up front, he sees tao freeze. luhan blinks before turning to minseok, who stands beside him with a grimace gracing his young features. his eyes never leave tao’s form, who then excuses himself from yixing’s presence.
luhan swears to himself the younger male’s eyes glistened familiarly. an ache runs through his mid-section.
“min-” he cuts himself off mid-thought as he sees the other male’s facial expression contort in pain.
he ignores the feeling of despair, gurgling in the pit of his stomach, mouth shut.
he awakens later to a familiar face sleeping peacefully beside him.
luhan smiles.
“who were you talking to, hyung?” jongdae asks with a chuckle, his mind half-occupied with the television playing in front of him.
luhan mumurs a “sehun”, his eyes fixated on the screen. he watches the birds soar through the skyline and envy fills his senses. his attention is diverted as jondgae chokes on some popcorn.
“are you-” jongdae quickly nods, his eyes filled with an emotion luhan does not understand.
he diverts his attention back to the television, aware of the glances the other continues to throw at him. he chooses to ignore.
“are you real?” luhan asks one day, folding his laundry. he senses sehun pause in his movements. a moment later, the bed shifts and arms wrap around him like a blanket of comfort. though luhan feels more lost than ever.
“you tell me.” sehun kisses luhan’s forehead and this sense of security- luhan needs it, wants it, craves it. he blinks, watching the younger male’s arms.
“i don’t understand why but i feel as if you’ve left me far behind. even though i run as fast as i can to catch up, you’re always too far gone.” luhan looks down at his hands and blinks.
no answer.
after a moment, he looks back up and proceeds to stare out the window. the sky feels inviting. he ignores sehun’s presence with silence.
“i miss yifan.” luhan says sadly, looking over his cup of coffee. he watches civilians flush past and humors himself at how simple life seems. if only. “do you think he still remembers me?”
he hears sehun hum an answer from the corner of his ear. “do you think we’ll see him again?”
“one day,” sehun promises. luhan frowns, watching him swing his legs back and forth on the chair.
"but how can you,” luhan says sadly, looking away and focusing on the barista. “you're already dead." after a moment of bustling crowds drowning attempts at auditory, sehun sighs. offering a relieved smile, he reaches over and cups the older man's cheek affectionately.
"i know."
luhan jumps slightly, falling out of his stupor as he looks up to see minseok peering over him with worried eyed. sm’s skyline blurs as he feels an ache spread from the middle section of his body gently throughout, until it hurts too much to breathe. he welcomes the oncoming pain.
"luhan?"
he smiles through the tears.
a plane crash.
it had happened a month ago and luhan is still reluctant to come to terms with the fact the man he shared his innermost desires, fears and tears with was in that plane along with the other five members of their korean half. no survivors.
the graves shine at him with a light he feels he’s missing in his life.
“luhan?” he feels a hand grasp his own, and looks up to yixing with a drowning heart. jongdae and tao follow not too far behind, minseok waiting ahead of them. yifan is silent beside him. luhan smiles and hopes his eyes smile with him.
he hears a pearl of heart-wrenching laughter float in with the gusts of wind. his heartbeat soars. “i’m okay.” he tightens the hold on his best friend’s hand as reassurance.
