"MARUI-KUN, MARUI-KUN!!"
Marui paused, snapping his gum as he turned around. It seemed Jirou had figured out the route he took to go home from school. Jirou was leaping toward him, waving his arms exuberantly as he called Marui's name.
"Marui-kun!" Jirou began, voice slightly quieter now that he was standing next to Marui, "Will you teach me how to blow bubbles like you?"
Marui stopped, frozen mid-bubble. "You mean you don't know how?"
Jirou shook his head violently, still bouncing. It made Marui dizzy.
"I don't really think about how I do it," Marui replied, but pulled out a stick of gum and handed it to Jirou anyway. "First you have to chew it so it's soft."
After a few long moments of very intense chewing, Jirou stopped. "Okay, now what?"
"You flatten it."
At this instruction, Jirou removed the gum from his mouth, squishing it between two fingers. Marui gasped.
"No! You can never use your hands! You have to use your tongue to flatten it against your teeth," he explained, horrified.
Jirou hurriedly put the gum back into his mouth, concentrating very hard on flattening it, and looking expectantly at Marui when he finished.
"Okay, now you push with your tongue until it's really thin between your teeth." Marui could see Jirou's tongue poking hesitantly out of his mouth, and he nodded. "Good. Now just blow."
Jirou did, and the entire piece of gum came flying from his mouth to hit Marui right between his eyes. Jirou's eyes widened, but his apology was silenced when Marui plucked the gum off of his face and put it straight into his own mouth. He blew a bubble, then pulled it from his mouth and handed Jirou the still-inflated gum.
"You need more practice," Marui called over his shoulder as he walked away.
