Onto to Part Dos!
By popular demand, I have organized a reference sheet of characters. Here you will all find a breakdown of characters in Silence and Thievery and which country they correspond to, since when I started, some of them didn't have names yet (or wern't gender specific and now they are XD). I have added some history and headcanon to each one as necessary. There will be more nations/characters in the sequel, but I'll let you have these guys for now .
Evangeline Ship
Arthur Kirkland (England) - Our main protagonist and voice of the story. He grew up in Britannia, a country that has a very harsh view of people who have ‘Talent’ or magic, and grew up with a power in his voice that allow him to only speak for something to make t happen (though, it varies how much of his own power he needs to use depending on what he asks for). His mother died when he was a child and his father when he was a young teenager, leaving him with three older brother and one younger; he has a contentious relationship with his brothers and apart from sending money and making sure they’re not in any serious trouble, he does not interact with them. He apprenticed with the local bookshop owner from age fifteen and when the owner retired, he sold the shop to Arthur at the ripe age of twenty. Up until Ivan’s attack, he worked and lived at is bookshop-currently in the story, he is twenty-three, about to turn twenty-four.
Alfred Jones (America) - Another protagonist of our story. He is nineteen years old and from Merica, a fertile and farm-land country in the eastern part of Avrupa. Both of his parents died in massive flood that hit due to violent storms that hit Merica when he was ten; his aunt raised both himself and his younger brother Matthew and apart from his parents’ death, he had an idyllic childhood. Due to his strength Talent, he was poised to take a leadership position within his hometown when he got older-when Ivan attacked his younger brother, he immediately set out after Ivan and met him in a duel. It ended badly for both of them, and Alfred was left with only a partial use of his strength. He joined Seychelles’ crew when he was sixteen and happened across the crew at a port town in Roma.
Seychelles - She is the twenty-five year old captain of the Evangeline. She is from the coastal islands of Sesel and has lived the majority of her life on the ocean in ships. Her father was a famous sea captain and her mother was a sea witch-they are both still alive and living comfortably on Sesel. When she was eighteen, she became the first mate for a large merchant ship; the ship became lost in a storm and when they couldn’t find their way back to shore, Seychelles used her compass eye to guide them home safely. Not long after, Seychelles was awarded the status of captain and given her first ship, Evangeline, which she eventually bought for herself with her earnings. Ivan attacked her while she’d been dropping off a shipment of silk to Espana and she began hunting him ever since. Her crew is extremely loyal to her, and she to them; her first mate is her cousin and sends word back to their family on where their hunt takes them.
Gilbert Beilschmidt (Prussia) - He is a hunter from Germania who joined Seychelles after his hearing had been stolen, which had helped him hear with the same strength as a wolf or large cat. He doesn’t delve much into his personal life but what the crew does know is that he and his brother Ludwig are very close, he was a bit famous (and infamous) in Germania before Ivan had attacked him, and he is still in love with Elizaveta Hedevary, whom he met when he first joined the Evangeline.
Francis Bonnefoy (France) - A bit of a lothario, he was a famous womanizer and writer in Gaul before Ivan attacked him. His visions were highly sought after by women trying to find their true love or to determine if their husbands or wives were faithful to them. He was not a prophet but he did have specific visions of the future or present; they were generally stronger if he was touching or thinking strongly about what he wanted to see. He is close to thirty years old and has been without his sight for nearly eight years, so long that he has adjusted to the half sight he was left with enough to function normally. He has been a part of Seychelles crew since the beginning of her hunt, having joined with Antonio and Elizaveta in Espana.
Esther Ruth (Israel) - A serious and determined woman from Zion. She was once a part of the Zionist army and used the speed she’d been blessed by the Balance with to act as a spy in enemy territory for a large part of her career. When Ivan stole her speed, she hunted for him on her own for a long time. While visiting Avrupa for the first time, she ran into Seychelles in a pub in Roma and was convinced to join their expedition. Apart from Arthur and Vash, she is the most recent addition to the Evangeline crew.
Vash Zwingli (Switzerland) - Vash joined the Evangeline simultaneous with Elizaveta’s departure, and as such, he had a hard time fitting in with the rest of the crew, who resented him for taking Elizaveta’s place. He eventually proved himself in a sea battle where he not only help protect their supplies from pirates, but he also risked his life to protect a hurt Seychelles. His younger sister was attacked by Ivan in their home country Schwyz and traveled with them on the Evangeline for a time. His best friend Roderich Edelstein is a financier behind the Evangeline’s travels.
Kiku Honda (Japan) - The resident healer on board the Evangeline. A Kitsune (or fox hybrid to the rest of the world), he lost his den when he was a child and grew up as an outsider in an adoptive den. Yao took him in when he discovered that Kiku had been blessed as a channel for magic from the Balance, which means he was a sorcerer. He studied under Yao for years before abruptly leaving-they had a massive fall-out due to a ‘mistake’ Yao had made, but will not divulge any details to the crew what that mistake is. He is very close with Ludwig and Feliciano Vargas, both of whom he met after leaving Yao and settling in Spandow, and when Feliciano was attacked, he decided to join Seychelles’ crew. He has developed a very close relationship with Alfred, and now Arthur as well.
Rosa Martinez (Mexico) - A brash, loud, and sometimes cruel young woman from Anahuac, a southern country that is south of the Lowlands, she was born with a Talent that allowed her to smell magic and other’s Talents. In Anahuac, much like in Britannia, magic and Talents are feared by many so, in an effort to protect herself and her family, Rosa agreed to work for the leading governance of her country to ‘sniff out’ others who had been born with Talent and magic. Outwardly, they only gathered up those who committed crimes with their magic or Talent, but Rosa has admitted that was not always the case. She is one of the original members of Seychelles’ crew.
Alejandro Aravaco (Cuba) - A sell-sword warrior from the Lowlands. He had a Talent for being able to breath out fire, which earned him the nickname ‘Fire Sword.’ He, next to Sadiq, is one of the oldest members of the Evangeline at thirty-five years old-this, more than anything, is part of why Alfred isn’t crazy about Alejandro and Matthew being an item, since Matthew is only seventeen. He has a very close relationship with Matthew, but it has never crossed into anything physical (mainly because he agrees with Alfred’s criticism and refuses to do anything until Matthew is older). Most take him to be a bit dim because he rarely speaks, but he is actually extremely intelligent with strategy and numbers; he often helps Seychelles with her bookkeeping.
Sadiq Adnan (Turkey) - An extremely large, powerful man from Anatolia; like Alejandro, he is a sell-sword warrior, but unlike most on the crew, he does not have any Talent. His hunt against Ivan is to take revenge for the death of his cousin, Cyrus, whom Ivan stole youth from. He is a narrow-minded mind to the rest of the crew, but he does show respect for people that he doesn’t agree with their lifestyle; Feliks is an example of this and recently, Sadiq is also growing to show respect for Arthur as well.
Matthew Jones (Canada) - While not part of the Evangeline crew yet, mainly because Alfred didn’t want him to join when he was still so young, he is close with nearly everyone on board. The exception is Arthur, whom he has never met-Arthur was attacked by Ivan after their most recent visit to Merica and Matthew. While he makes fun of his brother, Matthew and Alfred are extremely close to one another and Matthew does admire him and what he’s doing. He’s always felt guilty that he was attacked by Ivan; Alfred took up his vendetta largely because of what had happened to Matthew in the wake of losing his empathy. Currently, he is being held prisoner by Ivan in Ruthenia and has learned about the existence of Arthur through his fellow captives.

The Nords Brothers
Tino Väinämöinen (Finland) - He is the physical embodiment of Earth. A soft-spoken and kind young man, he is the strongest of the Nordic Brothers, which protect not only the Nords, but also the rest of the world from the press of the wild magic in the Barrens. Chosen when he was five, Tino was the first one the wander into the Nords forest after the Balance called him to serve. He is close with all his Brothers, but is closest with Berwald, with whom he is bonded to. When Ivan attempted to attack the Nords, he had been looking for Tino, but Berwald refused to let Ivan near him; he has been looking into the trouble with the Balance for a long time and believes that it is in danger of collapsing due to Ivan’s interference.
Berwald Oxenstierna (Sweden) - He is the physical embodiment of Ice. Large and imposing looking, he frightened everyone when he was a child; he is a man of little words but is actually very kind, in direct contrast to his element. He is bonded to Tino and lives with him in the Nords forest. When Ivan attacked him to try and reach Tino, Berwald fought him off, but he nearly had his throat torn out in the exchange. His voice is garbled and limited as a result, which makes him nearly incomprehensible to understand. His Brothers can understand him though, and he never had been a big talker, so he doesn’t view his voice has a handicap.
Nikolai Bondevik (Norway) - He is the physical embodiment of Water. Short and abrupt, Nikolai is not the friendliest person and often has a hard time grasping certain emotions or displaying any of them. Like the rest of his Brothers, he was an orphan, but unlike the rest of them, he grew up in an abusive orphanage for most of his young childhood. He did not receive his summons to the forest by the Balance until he was ten, making him the last one to join apart from Oskar. Because of his childhood and his element’s influence, he prefers to be left alone; however, he does love his Brothers deeply and protects them fiercely. When Ivan attacked, it had been Nikolai who had driven him back by nearly drowning him and water-whipping him. He has a complicated relationship with Mathias, as he can feel their bond but as refused to acknowledge it.
Mathias Køhler (Denmark) - He is the physical embodiment of Fire. Spontaneous is the best way to describe Mathias, who is very much his element’s personality. He is the wild child of the Brothers and is the most likely one to make a brash decision that results in disaster. He is the oldest of the Brothers and has a competitive relationship with Berwald. He is hopelessly in love with Nikolai, but doesn’t press him to start anything-he is the closest to Oskar out of everyone.
Oskar Steilsson (Iceland) - He is the physical embodiment of Wind. The youngest of the Brothers, he is also the most playful. Because of the age difference between him and the others (he is only fifteen where the other four’s ages range between twenty-four and twenty-six), he views them almost as parental figures and likes to play matchmaker between them. He is the one out of his Brothers who can leave the forest the easiest and had volunteered to go to the south instead of Nikolai after Tino informed everyone of Matthew’s disappearance, but because of his age, was shot down.

Spandow
Yao (China) - A powerful sorcerer who is possibly over 3000 years old. Not much is known about him, but he is called “Elder Yao’ by the Faerie, once trained Kiku, and suspected by Kiku as meddling in the Balance’s issues. His history is actually extremely important to the story, though, and will be revealed as we go forward.
Ludwig Beilschmidt (Germany) - Gilbert’s younger brother, he is extremely serious and owns an inn in Spandow. He used to travel all over Germania with Gilbert when he’d been a hunter, and later he travelled all over searching for Ivan. When Gilbert joined the Evangeline crew, he opted to stay behind with the suffering Vargas twins. Unknown to most, Ludwig had actually been in a relationship with Feliciano Vargas before he’d been attacked-only Kiku, and later Antonio, knew the extent of their relationship and how deeply it hurt Ludwig with see Feliciano, who had been vibrant, excitable but also extremely witty, as he was now.
Antonio Carriedo (Spain) - Antonio does not have any Talent of his own, but he was a close friend of Francis’ and joined Seychelles’ ship with him in Espana, where he had taken Francis to live after the attack in Gaul. He met Elizaveta while visiting Upper Pannonia, and after discovering she had also been attacked by Ivan, offered her to join him and Francis in Espana, where they were searching for where Ivan could be. After the Vargas attacks, he elected to stay behind in Spandow to help Ludwig look after Feliciano and Lovino. Antonio loves Lovino and tries to help his memory heal itself, since he is the only one Lovino can remember.
Feliciano Vargas (N. Italy) - One half of the famous Vargas twins, who inherited their grandfather’s power and had been born with endless supplies of energy. Feliciano was a cook and fell in love with Ludwig over the many times he and Gilbert stopped by in Spandow over their travels. They had been planning to be bonded soon when Ivan attacked him and left him with only half his mind. He is now incompetent and needs constant supervision to keep himself from hurting himself or others.
Lovino Vargas (S. Italy) - The second half of the famous Vargas twins. Lovino had been the lazier of the two twins growing up, but as they got older, he was the one who started channeling his excess energy into electricity, and was one of the biggest reasons Avrupa had been able to make the jump from medieval living to the more modernized and industrial advancements needed to bring Avrupa to where it was today. He continued to assist in different technological changes, especially once Kiku joined him and started mixing magic into the pot, but when Ivan attacked him, he lost his memory along with all the knowledge he’d gained over the years and Avrupa’s advancements came to a halt. He has flashes of his memories, but they are always painful for him and generally they revolve around either the attack or Antonio.
Feliks Łukasiewicz (Poland) - Not much is known about Feliks as he was part of the crew for such a short amount of time, and even while he was, he was only close with Toris. He is hunting Ivan on his own and prefers it that way, believing he can find him quicker and quieter than if he was in a group-he has never come out and said it, but he believes that killing Ivan will reverse all the damage he’s done, which clashed with what the Nordic Brothers hypothesized, and that was part of his decision to leave the Evangeline. He has had a few encounters with Sadiq and has a tenuous alliance with the man.

Vindobana
Elizaveta Hedevary (ne. Edelstein) (Hungary) - An extremely powerful Talent-born, she had the ability to whisper to plants of all kind and bend them to her will. Mostly, she used this to keep her town in Upper Pannonia bountiful each harvest and to grow different fruits and vegetables that normally would not grow. She was fond of gardening and still is, despite having lost her Talent. She joined the Evangeline with Francis and Antonio and began a tempestuous relationship with Gilbert when he joined a few months later. She was very close with Alfred and came to regard him as a little brother. When they visited Vindobana and Roderich, she had been growing heartsick on board the Evangeline and was starting to feel like her life and desires would always take a back seat as long as she was hunting Ivan. She made the decision to stay behind as Vash joined-she and Roderich eventually fell in love and were married, but she never properly had closure from her relationship with Gilbert, so she still loves him as well.
Roderich Edelstein (Austria) - A wealthy merchant living in Vindobana who has known Vash ever since they were at school together, he had initially been approached by Seychelles at the start of her crusade against Ivan, whom he knew well from their various business deals. He helps finance the Evangeline’s many travels; when his best friend’s sister was attacked by Ivan, he made it his personal mission to start to do more than send money Seychelles way. He has his own network of spies that are all throughout Avrupa that try and give information as often as they can. It was actually Roderich who informed the crew initially that his spies saw a lot of correspondence coming and going from Britannia, which prompted Francis to try and use the vision he had left through a tenuous connection with Ivan, to see why. He is devoted to Elizaveta, Vash, and Lily whom he cares about most.
Lily Zwingli (Liechtenstein) - A young girl who was attacked by Ivan, had her youth drained from her, and is left with the appearance and constitution of an eighty-year old woman. She is very kind-hearted and idolizes her older brother. Due to health issues, suspected to have been brought on by the Faerie, she was left with Roderich and Elizaveta in Vindobona before the rest of the crew departed for Zion.

Ivan’s Following
Ivan Braginski (Russia) - Our main antagonist of the story who is at best a thief and at worse a murderer. He has been stealing Talents, magic, and energy (which translates into youth and life from people, mainly children) for years, though not many people know why. Natalia has referred to a ‘Plan’ or vision of his, but mostly, the crew is in the dark as to why Ivan is stealing these things. He is a bit mad and vacillates between cold-hearted, regretful, kind, and child-like depending on his mood. The most important thing to know about Ivan right now is that he truly believes what he is doing is right-he is not doing anything for his own power and gain, not really.
Natalia Arlovskaya (Belarus) - Ivan’s cruel and fanatical right-hand woman. She is a gifted fighter and has a unique and powerful Talent that allows her to turn his skin into diamond armor. She is extremely unhinged and is in love with Ivan to an obsessive degree, which he is aware of but does not act on. She harbors an intense dislike of anyone Ivan takes who did not elect to follow him, as she did, and hates Toris and Alfred, who she views as competition for Ivan’s attention. She is cruel to Matthew as a result and often hits or berates him.
Oskana Braginskaya (Ukraine) - Ivan’s ‘mother-like’ figure at his compound. She is a believer in his Vision but is not cruel like Natalia is. She cares deeply for everyone Ivan brings into the compound and looks after the little ones as a surrogate mother. She has a Talent that allows her to touch something and multiple it by a dozen. We will learn more about her as the story progresses.
Eduard von Bock (Estonia) - Once a believer in Ivan’s vision, he willingly joined him. However, once he learned the darker side of what Ivan was doing, he tried to leave-no one knows what happened, only that after he attempted to leave, he very quickly changed his mind. Not long after, Ivan brought Raivis there to stay with them, despite having already stolen the boy’s Talent and Eduard took to looking after him. He is close with Raivis and Toris and tries to undermine Ivan when he can. He believes that Arthur is the key to stopping Ivan, but won’t reveal as to how.
Raivis Galante (Latvia) - a young, nervous boy who had the Talent to create portals which could transport him and whoever he was touching. This was stolen by Ivan, but despite this, he was still taken by Ivan. He spends most of his time with Eduard or Oskana, though he is close with Toris as well.
Toris Laurinaitis (Lithuania) - A powerful young healer who was attacked by Ivan, kept his Talent which was too powerful for Ivan to hold, and was later kidnapped by Ivan. He was part of Seychelles crew and many of them grew close to him. He is in love with Feliks, though he never said anything to him about his feelings, as they were best friends growing up and he didn’t want to damage their friendship. He discovered later, due to Ivan’s stolen Talents, that Feliks felt the same, which is a source of constant regret and pain to him. He tried to inform Matthew as much as he can about what he knows, but has been forbidden to speak with Matthew after Ivan discovers him.
Kartlos (Georgia) - A follower of Ivan’s. He has a Talent which allows him to command clouds, which means he can sometimes shift the weather if he focuses hard enough. Not yet introduced.
Asmin (Aremenia) - A young girl who was orphaned and comes from Araaba. She has the Talent to read minds, though she is limited to what she can actually read; the person must be thinking about it at the moment for her to see it. She is very kind and innocent to what Ivan is doing. As she grows older though, she is starting to learn what he does to get the Talents he has.
Dmitri (Romania) - A follower of Ivan’s. He has a Talent which allows him to shape shift into a wolf. Not yet introduced.
Dragos (Moldova) - A follower of Ivan’s. He has a Talent which allows him to echo his voice to a high-pitch screech. Not yet introduced.
Vladimir (Bulgaria) - A follower of Ivan’s. He has a Talent which allows him to drain blood from a person and turn it to energy. He is who Ivan takes with him when he needs to gather life force from people and children. Not yet introduced.
