Writer's Block: Clothing Options

Jan 17, 2009 17:20

I don't think the two are mutually exclusive, and I'd rather be stylish above all else. But, given the choice, I'd rather be fashionable. (Obviously, since I'm a fashion design major-- it's kind of an expectation.) I like to be able to give people a glimpse into who I am through what I'm wearing. I wish that our society still had social rules about dress. I always complain about how no one in my generation knows how to set or eat at a proper table setting or knows how to ballroom dance. Going along with that, I wish gloves and hats were still something you could wear without being considered way out of the norm. Dinners and shows should still be cause to dress up, not options. I find it ironic that the larger Americans get, the more common it is to see people going out and about in sneakers and sweats. Those are workout clothes!! Not that I'm innocent of that, either. Hopefully in the future we'll gear back to more formal clothing; fashion is cyclical, after all, and we've been in the comfort rut since the early 90's. Time for a change.
