Although I realise it has been ages since I have posted on here, I always check here pretty regularly, so I thought it was probably time to write something here again.
I have been here in Canberra for the last 5 weeks, with 5/6 days back in Perth last weekend, working on this project over here. This is all good, but it leaves me by myself on the weekends with basically nothing to do, and not knowing anyone basically at all in this town, since my work colleagues (nearly all from Sydney) go home for the weekend. Also it is a lot colder over here, was about 16 degrees today while in perth it was 25 or so. Am also missing my hockey season being over here, I played last weekend while I was back, without having picked up a stick for 4 weeks.
So basically I haven't had much of a social life recently, working from 7-7 during the week and either working or else I am by myself on the weekends. However, it has given me a good opportunity to go exploring once again on this side of the country. I went to Sydney a few weekends ago which was really good, and considering going to Melbourne maybe next week or the week after (should I still be here). So that is good.
Have also wandered a fair bit around Canberra, which has been reasonably interesting. For instance, I saw the torch relay a week ago, and the 43 billion Chinese people who were also here following the flame. Went to parliament house, the war memorial, really good, and also up to the big telstra lookout tower up on black mountain, which has great views of the city.
However, the town itself is amazingly dead. We have walked through town (say on a Wednesday night) and struggled to see another person. There is reasonable nightlife on Thurs/Fri/Sat nights, but this is usually when i'm by myself, and still probably on slightly better than, say, Bunbury's. Amazingly.
So in all, it's been an interesting time (especially the project that i'm working on) although I would rather be at home.
