day 30 - your favorite song at this time last year
Last year at this time I was pretty intensely into Drive By Truckers and listening to a bunch of their albums, including Southern Rock Opera (2001) (my favorite), as well as The Dirty South (2004) and The Big To-Do (2010), so there are a couple of songs that stand out. There are so many of Cooley's songs where the lyrics just MAKE ME DIE because they're so awesome, like the price of being sober / is being scared out of your mind ("Shut Up and Get on the Plane") and the bottle ain't to blame and i ain't trying to / it don't make you do a thing, it just lets you ("Women Without Whiskey"). And Cooley has the most amazing deep voice, it sounds like sex and I love it. BUT. BUT PATTERSON. I love the way he sings, it's higher and more nasal and he kind of *talks* more than sings, but I LOVE how he does it, how his words sort of wrap around the music rather than flowing together with it. LASJDFLSAJDFLSAJ;FLASJ And, in a general sense, his songs tend to sound more like Southern Rock than the Alt-Country feel of Cooley's, and that's exactly what I like.

Fave lines: them high heeled shoes and that wig he made her wear / reduced her charge to voluntary manslaughter

Ahahahah, and then this whole DBT phase was followed by a weird obsession with this song. I listened to it on repeat, nonstop, for like two weeks. No other songs, just this one. This is one of the two Muse songs I actually like, and I can never remember the name of the other one.

Fave lines: you trick your lovers / that you're wicked and divine / you may be a sinner / but your innocence is mine
....and that's the end of the 30 Days of Song meme! \o/ I'm kind of sad; I had such a fun time doing this, I don't really want to stop -- in case you couldn't tell, I really enjoy talking about music! And it was a lot of fun getting comments and responses related to the posts but not even always associated with the particular songs.
