Nodame Cantabile

Finished watching the first season of Nodame Canatabile last night. I'd seen the first 10 episodes a long time ago, probably over a year ago. I vaguely remembered what had happened so I just started with episode 10 again. Finished watching the last episode, number 23, at 3:30am.

It was very enjoyable. Nothing super deep or squeeeee-worthy, but I have to admit that this is one of the few shows that does the silly sounds/wiggly body/impromptu chibi-ness right. Nodame is an intriguing, frustratingly simple and complex, adorable character. I also just love Chiaki's focus and anal retentiveness. <3 They're the ultimate example of opposites attracting. I think the fact that Chiaki keeps Nodame at arms' length is really great -- especially because he's the last one to realize that he has let her in past all of his walls.

It's subtle and sweet and satisfying in a quiet, sighing kind of way. AND OMG THAT 5 SECONDS IN EPISODE 23 WAS WORTH WATCHING THE WHOLE SHOW FOR. <3 <3

There are some times when I think it goes on too long, highlighting characters' "skills" at playing the music. But it seems that those moments were easy enough to overlook.

I'm glad I didn't have season 2 on my computer last night because I may not have been able to force myself to sleep until something crazy like 6am. But I've got it downloading today while I'm at work, so it'll be there for me tomorrow (since tonight I'll be coming home late from the Jonathan Coulton show in Williamsburg).

After watching season 2, and after trying to find a place to put about 5g worth of stuff, I intend to download the live action series. I really can't wait for that -- I saw the first two episodes at the same time I was watching those 10 episodes of the anime, and I liked the live action version, surprisingly, WAAAAY better than the anime!

Can anyone tell me if the manga is significantly different from the anime and/or live action?
