Friday I couldn't get out of work early, so I arrived around 7pm, just in time for the dealer's room and artist alley to have closed. Which means I lugged my laptop to work and around the city for nothing, but oh well. I had an enjoyable time anyway walking around, bumping into and chatting with people I haven't seen in a while... as well as those I saw just a few days earlier. Cons are extremely fun when there's always someone to talk to no matter where you turn. =D
Left a bit early and went with Judy to her boss's birthday party where we had yummy free Thai food and interesting conversation. Toward the end of the night, politics was the topic of discussion and I had a good time hearing other people's views on the way the race was going. Ironically, the debate was earlier that night though I obviously hadn't had a chance to watch it.
Saturday Judy and I got to the con at 11am and were faced with some booth issues. Things were straightened out, however, and the rest of the day was on a roll. I really enjoyed talking to everyone who came by the booth! I got to see
link_worshiper, whom I haven't seen since Labor Day weekend and boy, we had a lot to talk about! ^_~ And
roserevolution and her posse, who I'd seen just the weekend before. It was also really nice to talk to Catherine and Jose, who I don't think I've seen since last NYAF! =(
Saturday night was the WCS/masquerade... which I did not attend. As I understand, it was a close decision. Instead, I went out to Todai (all-you-can-eat sushi/seafood buffet on W32nd) with Jim,
_corruption_, and
rymel. OMG, I stuffed myself silly. The food there is so freaking good! I highly recommend Chilean Sea Bass to anyone who has the opportunity to try it! Went to the Tower Bar with aforementioned folks and met up with Chris, Carrie, Stampede, Kathryn, and Judy, where amusing giggley times were had by most of the girls. ^_~
Sunday we got to the Javits again just shy of 11am. This time I ended up running errands a little more than actually working at the booth, but it's all fun times! More chatting, a bit of looking around, and then it was 4pm and the con was ending. It seemed really, really weird and abrupt. The time had gone by so quickly~! But we broke down the booth pretty quickly and the four of us from the previous night, plus Judy this time, went back to Todai for yummy delicious food! Stuffed myself again. It's morally wrong to NOT stuff yourself when you've paid for a delicious all-you-can-eat buffet. Seriously.
I'm skipping over all the amazing costumes we saw. Except can I say? The Sweeney Todd from that pair looked exactly like a young Johnny Depp and, without intending any offense whatsoever to his girlfriend/wife/partner/whoever, I could NOT stop staring at him for the whole time he was near the booth. That man is HOT. *bites lip and fans self*
So on Saturday, on the walk over to the Javits, Judy and I passed this sign, posted on the side street of the construction site across from the Javits that used to have several pillars.
Who knows how long it will take to complete, but I think it's pretty cool. It'll be nice to be able to get farther west/crosstown without taking a bus. Although if I were still living at my parents' house, I might be a bit peeved since this means the 7 train will be even MORE crowded by the time it gets to Grand Central, which means fewer available seats at the MOST IMPORTANT TIME -- Friday or Saturday at 2am, when you're tired and drunk and don't want to stand up all the way to the last stop!
