It gets darker.

Just watched the most recent episodes of House and Supernatural. NO SPOILERS.

House was okay; nothing happened so much in this episode (ep. 10 "It's a Wonderful Lie") that had me squeeing or anything, though it's been a while since I last saw a season 4 episode, so I was taken aback for a second or two to see Taub in the beginning. I was like, "Oh yeah!" From the little bit I know of the upcoming episode after the superbowl, I think I'll be looking forward to it. I do like Mira Sorvino a lot. ^^

Supernatural was actually pretty awesome! I liked how the episode opened -- not violent so much, but a little horrifying. The show has gotten somewhat darker, and I think they're keeping up with that in mood. I particularly enjoyed the scene where Dean stabs someone repeatedly. Oooh, that was very nice. I like cold and violent Dean. =D

And the twist with Ruby was something I definitely approve of. I mentioned beginning to like her more with the revelation of her first secret; the revelation of this second secret is even better. I heard some rumors of Katie Cassidy going into rehab or something? I wonder how that might affect her role on SPN. Also, this most recent revelation might be pretty cool fic fodder, and it also makes me wonder if what they've revealed might be used in later seasons. I'm trying to not be too specific for anyone who doesn't want to be spoiled, but OH MAN, I could really go for the plot twist I'm thinking of right now.

I read an interview of Kripke in which he said SPN would be going on "hiatus" after the new episodes air. I hope it actually is a hiatus and doesn't turn into a cancellation. ;_;

I also watched Serenity, finally.

Someone had let slip that one of the characters dies in this movie, so I was really, really hoping it would be Inara. I don't really dislike her, but she would be more useful to me dead than alive. Alas, it was not to be. When Book was killed, I figured, "Oh well, at least it was Book." He would have been my other choice since I actually didn't like him at all.

I kept coming back to my dsappointment that it had been Book who was killed, not thinking that they might kill someone else. But then Wash was killed. I had thought at some point about mid-way through that they hadn't really given much screen time to him, and that it was kind of odd. So my first thought when he was killed was, "Ooohhh. So that's why."

Also, I felt like they kind of copped out with turning the "badguy" good. Boy, that was quick work.

As for River. Boy, I like her a lot better when she's being alternately threatening or lucid than when she's just being crazy and "wispy", for lack of a better descriptive.

As with the series, Mal was the most-developed character. (Though yes, they certainly developed River's character much more than was done in the series.) I like some of the secondary characters more than others, but Mal's really the only one I actually care about.

I'd have to say that I was really watching it as more of a long, concluding episode than a movie. I kind of wonder what a person's reaction to it might have been had they not seen the show first -- how does it hold up as a movie, on its own? Does it seem like there are too many characters and you don't really know much about most of them? Then again, that's pretty typical for a movie, so I dunno...
