I'm only sad that I wasn't able to attend all 3 days since I had to work today. =(
FRIDAY highlights and babble. Had to wake up and leave home even earlier than usual on Friday 'cause I had to be at the Javits Center by 9am. From 9am til 2pm I was handing out mardi gras-type necklaces for our VIZ "prize patrol" (if they spotted you wearing them later they gave you a prize). But it was still industry-only til 4pm, so it was still relatively quiet. I don't think I ate or drank enough because I had a fucking pounding headache by noon. I don't know how I lasted til 2. I ran out of there to eat and felt tolerably better.
But then I went back in and over to the booth that had a prototype of the
Xbox 360 version of Guitar Hero II. OMG, it's
SOOOO BEAUTIFUL. The graphics are just gorgeous. Just really. Pandora looks soooo pretty (her hair is even better) and Eddie's sleeve is really vibrant and colorful and awesome. Aside from the graphics... only the first 3 sections and two bonus tracks (two of my *favorites*, Less Talk More Rokk and Thunderhorse) were available, but there were a couple of different songs. In no particular order: Life Wasted, Salvation, Possom Kingdom, Billion Dollar Babies. I met a couple of cool guys while playing -- a Tokyopop staffer, and someone from Harris Publications, with whom I had an interesting conversation about the levels of difficulty and their transitions in GH1 vs. GH2 (and whom is about 10 songs away from completing the game on Expert, that bastard). >_< Anyway, my headache came back worse than ever because Less Talk More Rokk has an awesome-yet-painful bass track.
I saw someone I recognized from one of the LJ tattoo communities I'm part of, LOL. She had actually just posted like a week ago. She has some really awesome tattoos! I said hi. ^^
Went to meet Liz back over on 6th Avenue to get some painkillers and food. My headache totally went away and I went back to the con. Roamed around the exhibitor's area and artist alley for several more hours. Bought those Anita Blake comics I was looking for (as well as a set for Angelica, so pay up), and two t-shirts (one a cool-looking Frank Miller one, and the old black Batman logo on a gray bg). Didn't DO a whole lot, but it was fun anyway. Left at 9:30pm.
SATURDAY highlights and more lengthy babble. Got to Javits at 11:30am -- OMG, the line was insane. I'm so glad I had an exhibitor's badge and didn't have to wait in line to get in! Roamed around the exhibitor's area. I got there early (my shift for VIZ wouldn't start til 5pm) specifically to be able to dl the Death Note trailer they were making available to cell phones with bluetooth. Unfortunately, it didn't work for me. Figures. But I met some nice people -- one with a tattoo of Cloud with his sword. ♥
Bumped into Erica, Brian, Gregg, other local con people. And the VIZ people were really nice; I really enjoyed working for them. And as far as I know, they were interested in having me back for next year, so I'm looking forward to NYCC 2008 (which will be in April, btw). This time, it would be nice if some of my friends would join me...
Anyway, I wandered over to a stage area where various jedi and sith, et al, were choregraphedly dueling with light sabers. Oddly enough, I bumped into
vampiricyoda there. A couple of the skits were really good, but I'm feeling too tired to go into a written explanation. If you're interested, ask me. Angelica I have to tell you about one of them in particular ~ it was so cute!
After that I wandered over to the panel area and was apparently just in time to sit in on the Jhonen Vasquez panel! I'm really glad I did -- he's a real interesting guy. Blunt, no-nonsense, and doesn't suffer fools gladly. I really enjoyed listening to some of his answers -- they indicated that yes, indeed, he has a pretty intelligent brain behind all that snark. One of the things he said when asked a question that was vaguely like "where do you get your ideas?" was that he writes about what interests him. When he was a child he was interested in aliens and robots. Hence Invader Zim. That panel was really amusing as well (and slightly embarrassing, on behalf of intelligent fans everywhere), especially when one girl asked, "Can I have a hug?" His answer was, after a stunned second or two, "No."
Jeezus, what an idiot.
Ate and roamed around a bit more, decided to be supportive and buy the JTHM and Squee compilation books, then on to my shift at VIZ. I got to run the Naruto equivalent (rubber shuriken) of the toss-the-beanbag game, twice. And we passed out boxes and boxes' worth of those free green VIZ tote bags. I love those things. I hope they make a new color tote for next year.
Left at 8:30pm.
All in all, an excellent time was had (except for the horrible pounding headache that was as close to a migraine as I ever want to get). Next year, all I need is more people I know going with me.
Oh! And I got a konoha hitai-ate! *is disproportionately pleased* <3
