Weekend from Hell The insanity that was this weekend:
Angelica and Liz did some preliminary fabric shopping. I took a cab after work (another $8!) over to the garment district to meet them before the shops closed so that I could see some of the fabrics they'd spotted. Of course, we didn't buy any of them because they were either not quite the right color and/or weight. I forgot to ask them to go to the notions store and ask about skirt hoops. Well, since we have to go back anyway, I guess it'll be done then. Hopefully tomorrow, Angelica and/or Liz can do a bit more scouting, and I can come and meet them again around 5:30. After the fabric stuff we took the train over to Chinatown, where we met up with Yoshi, Will and Tim, and ate at Penang. It was a lot of fun -- I'm glad we got together! And Tim, too. I hadn't met him before, but he's a nice guy, if a bit (too) shy. Actually, he's married (even though he's around my age). I wonder what his wife is like -- I hope she isn't too overbearing 'cause that would just be wrong. It was really nice to eat Malaysian food -- I haven't had any in a loooong time. Too long! It's my favorite food, so flavorful! I was kind of annoyed, though, because our waiter didn't speak much English and brought me some belacan sauce when I'd ask for a dish of String Bean Belacan. =( Oh well, I guess I'll just have to go back soon! ^^ We pretty much all split up after that and went home.
Liz and Mom had dentist appointments in the morning. Maryann and Angelica called at 11 and 11:30, respectively, to wake me up (so kind of them). But it was for the best because I got to have a bit of chatting time before they were done and I had to get ready to go out. Went out to eat with parents, went to Bay Terrace Shopping Center where I found a whole bunch of new stuff at Lane Bryant that I had to put on hold because we had to rush home to meet with the contractor guy who's remodeling our front walkway, driveway, and the garage. In front of the house, we whittled everything down and wrote out the estimate for the bank. After everything was sorted out we picked up Angelica (who was home for the weekend for a change 'cause she thought Yoshi's party was going to be this weekend), dropped by parents off at the park, went back to Lane Bryant where I proceeded to spend $150 on button-down shirts and a really pretty bra. (But they're cute. And I'm a serious shopaholic. At least I'm one of those that doesn't mind window shopping and not buying anything, otherwise I'd be in serious debt.) It would've been more but Angelica had a $50 off (with $150 purchase) coupon and I had an additional 10% off coupon, so I saved a good $70, I think. =D
But wait, it's not over. We dropped Angelica off at home, went to Walgreens to pick up Maryann and for my parents to get some stuff. Then I dropped my parents off at home, modeled my new stuff for Maryann (lol, girls!) and then drove over to the Bronx to go over Maryann's house to help her pack a few things (by this time it was around 10pm). Several things of note, however!
While still on the service road of the Long Island Expressway, I was driving along in the right lane (of a two-lane street, plus a lane for parked cars). As I neared the traffic light/intersection, I saw that the car ahead of me was going slowly. So I (using the left-turn signal!) switched to the left lane in order to pass him. But as we got to the middle of the intersection, he'd started to turn left! From the right lane! What a fucking idiot!!! I leaned on the horn the second I realized, and as I can't remember if I braked or not (even if I had, it wouldn't have made a difference if the other guy hadn't noticed/stopped turning left when he did), I'm really glad that he *heard* the horn and was going slowly enough to be able to brake right away. We didn't touch, but I saw in one of the mirrors that he'd only been 2-3 inches away. What a fucking asshole. I was really pissed off! Then Maryann said she thought he might have scraped us. Although I hadn't felt that, I pulled over and checked the car, but no -- we'd definitely not touched at all. *so relieved*
So,
windsorblue -- I'm really glad you're okay, even if that dumbass hurt your car! (And I'm glad that Trowa was there to take over your vocal cords help you through it, even though I know that the Duo in the back of my head would only encourage my spitting rage if I were in the same position.)
We got to Maryann's house around 10:30, I think. Maybe more like 10:45. But on line to pay the toll, I got a text message from Nicky that her sister died. OMFG! Her sister (only 20 years old!) had some mental problems and was in a care home, but died because she had a STREP THROAT INFECTION WENT SEPTIC BECAUSE SHE WAS DEHYDRATED. Isn't that just horrible and disgusting?! After we got off the bridge, I pulled over and talked to her for a few minutes. I really wish I could've been there to give her hugs. At least she has Arthur to lean on.
We finally got to Maryann's house. But there was no real way to help her do any packing because her sister was home (they share a bedroom) and wanted to sleep. Yeah. Luckily, Maryann said that she'd finally gotten into a groove of packing on Friday, so she didn't really need the help she thought she did. Liz and I stayed for a couple of hours. Poor *sneezing and stuffy-nosed* Liz, she's definitely allergic to cat (dander, I think, but maybe not hair), but hopefully having Baby in the basement won't be too bad because it's only one cat (Maryann has three that pretty much live in only her room, not to mention 4 other cats and 2 dogs in the rest of the house) and it won't be such a small/confined place. And it wasn't a wasted trip 'cause I brought home one box and two bags of Maryann's stuff.
Baby, in my bookcase (from last weekend).
Sunday -- boring and unexciting in comparison with Friday and Saturday. Went to work at the GCS store. Watched six more episodes of Wild Striker (20-25), met Angelica and Liz at the mall for dinner, then went home and watched another two episodes (26-27).
