What a weird and hectic week this is turning out to be.
Good stuff...
Me and Ruthie got the apartment in City Island. It's such a relief and I'm over the ruddy moon. Of course now the arguments have started about how we go about furnishing the place. Ruth's being sensible. I HATE that! While I know there's a definite benefit in getting stuff second hand where you can, and using things that you already own, I just really want this place to perfect. Example - Ruth owns a wardrobe at her mum's house. So technically we only need to buy one, right? But damnit I want to have two wardrobes that match! I am fully aware that there's madness to my ways. It's even came down to arguing about bread bins. But recent events that I will come on to will change the complexion of my defence case. I guess it doesn't matter what we sit on, as long as we sit on it together, right? Ahhhh bless. Yeah, I'm precious.
Hot Snakes. In my opinion they are the finest currently existing band in the world. Of all the bands that I've come across anyway. Saw them twice this week. First time was in Nottingham on Monday. I had a Maniacs gig at the Fenton, got through with playing and then hightailed it on my own down the M1. Got there with time to spare. Man, they were amazing. Just mindblowing. There was a weird atmosphere in the place, but I chalk that up to the fact that we were in Nottingham. I fucking hate that place. I find there's often an air of intimidation. But not even that could spoil the gig. The Snakes drummer Mario seemed to be having a subdued set - not putting as much back into his playing as much I'd seen him previously. But otherwise, it was all tippity top. They played some Drive Like Jehu stuff too, but that was kinda lost on me as I've never really been a fan, although they were shit hot live. Saw the Snakettes play again in Leeds the following evening. Got quite drunk too which was very nice. Was ace to see Penny and Buzzkill open the show. I think Trog gets a major haul of brownie points for that because I can't think of any other bands that would have wanted to get on the bill more than those guys. Anyway - the Snakes - god bloody damn it... They made the previous night's show fade into mediocrity. They were overwhelmingly good in my opinion. They actually seemed to be enjoying themselves onstage a lot more than usual too. I swear Rick Fork actually smiled once or twice. And Jesus, if Mario had a lazy one the previous night, he made amends this time out. He was just fucking shit hot. It was amazing to watch, so solid and driving. And he's very pretty too. Some smartarse was shouting for them to play some Jehu songs and Rick seemed to take great pleasure in correcting said heckler's pronunciation of 'Jehu'. Apparently, it's 'jay-hoo'. I couldn't resist getting in on the cheeky heckle/request of shouting for their ex band's songs too - but I opted to bellow Metroschifter titles. Ahh well I actually liked the first couple Metroschifter albums. I think they thought I was taking the piss.
Bad stuff...
Despite getting the apartment, I found out that my credit rating is shit. It's all down to late payments in my previous shared house. Gutted. Time will heal the wounds but it's a tad worrying.
I've been getting paid too high a rate of travelling expenses at work, and could conceivably have to pay them back. The overpayment is six hundred quid! Gutted. Hopefully I'll get away with it, but knowing my luck I'll be up shit creek.
So I'm kinda forced into adopting Ruth's cheaper options strategy. Which sucks because I want a Nigella Lawson bread bin and a Dualit toaster!!!
