in dream you will lose your heartache

Guess. WHAT?!

NEW -- wait for it... -- ... -- ... -- LAYOUT!!!

Featuring my interpretation of, as they call him in the comics, His Darkness, Dream of the Endless. He is, in fact, not really Dream. He is apparently a character from HunterxHunter named "Illumi." I scanned him out of a doujinshi I bought for myself for my birthday, by Yamada D. Yonezou. It's a non-explicit shota doujinshi. There are three stories, which go like this, insofar as I can interpret them by pictures only: 1.) Killua/Illumi: Killua is sniveling around in the forest late one night, because he wants to jump the bones of his BFF, Gon (?). I think that's Gon. His hair sticks straight up, not unlike the canon Dream's. Anyway, Killua is sniveling because of the lack of bones-jumping happening in their relationship. Illumi, who in his native conformation in the doujinart looks like the results of a night of passion spent between Prince and Clow Read, walks up to him out of nowhere, in the forest, remember, puts the whammy eye on him, and then at least kisses (and possibly jumps) him. 2.) Some people from Juuni Kokuki: I have no idea who these characters are, but they look hot. Of course. Also, because of the way Yonezou draws them, I can't tell if it's shota or not. The tachi is a beautiful dark-haired man (?) with a high ponytail, wearing (and then not wearing) several long elaborate brocade gowns in the style that most mangaka/doujinshika use in order to evoke an atmosphere of either China or feudal Japan. The neko is a beautiful little dude with pale hair and silvery eyes, and a kind of a bird-looking mullet, who wears (and then doffs) several long elaborate brocade gowns in the style that most mangaka/doujinshika use in order to evoke an atmosphere of either China or feudal Japan. Some stuff happens with some other characters who are wearing silly-looking hats, and then seme and uke start practicing their handwriting. Then uke starts crying. Seme is kind enough to roll him in the clover. The next day, he sings a song about the sex they had, and the uke covers up his mouth while turning chibi. Then they decide to live happily ever in a cosplay store, judging by their facial expressions. This is the only story which features 'explicit' sex. 3.) Howl/Marklulu: Yes, back away slowly. Howl, who looks like the results of a night of passion spent between Angelina Jolie and Liv Tyler, is playing airplane with Marlkulu, while Sophie, who looks even more like a cow than she has a natural tendency to do anyway, sets a picnic or something for them. While Marklulu, who is for some reason two, is flying through air, he remembers a time when he lived alone with Howl, who could float instead of walk, and how happy they were. He then remembers the time Howl was covered in slime and tongue-kissed him. Then Sophie calls them to dinner. Howl goes, while Marklulu protests that he is not eating food that has been prepared by a cow. At least, that's what I assume he's saying, based on his facial expression. THE END.

Anyway. Back to Dream. I have been reading Sandman again. I have ambivalent feelings about it. Most of the negative feelings are centered around the art. Why does he have to be so damn ugly? In the first comic, he looks like a dissolute, goth Fraggle. In the third comic, he resembles a peculiarly demonic head of broccoli. WHYWHYWHY. This is definitely a character I should want to pin down and lick, not run from in a sprightly manner, lest I wet my pants laughing at his hair and choice of fashion ensemble. I know Americans don't tend to be as fond of ladyboys as are the Japanese, but man, when was the last time you met a woman who dumped a guy because his eyelashes were too long? Or because his hair was too pretty? Maybe because he spent too much time styling it, but not because it looked too nice!! Maaaaaan. I'm currently reading A Midsummer Night's Dream. I've been reading it for three days. I'm three pages in. No, I mean, like. Like. Three halves of pages. It seems like I just read and read and read for hours, and I only get through one or two panels.

Anyway. Anyway. I have been having many edifying conversations about Dream with fluff_vanwinkle, who also sent me scans of some crazy-beautiful Sandman postcards. I mean, really, really beautiful, some of them. Anyway. More about Dream later, as well as topics including but not limited to: Jeeves & Wooster, The Phantom of the Opera, and Howl's Moving Castle (finally watched it).

For now, though, I go to dream a little dream of Dream (version Illumi, hopefully).

Almost forgot! TRC 127: Gorgeous color page, I've got it in the early stages of desktoppery, but the chapter was heavy on the Syaoran/Sakura and therefore boring, not to mention I don't care for X/1999, so the cooperative water-based love-in was totally lost on me. I give it a 2, not counting the frontispiece.

ETA 6.51PM 02/09/2006: ZOMGOZZOOMG I JUST NOTICED THAT I FORGOT TO PUT STARS IN DREAM'S EYES OMIGAH IF HE DOESN'T HAVE STARS IN HIS EYES HE'S JUST A NONDESCRIPT GOTH DUDE I CAN'T BELIEVE I DID THAT. But it has been rectified. Also, there's a desktop version here. I had to use true black for the desktop because in the larger shapes the lighter black was bleeding all over the place. Also I didn't get his eye makeup quite right. Ah, well.
