In response to the appalling hate crime that recently happened in Poland, EqualityMaine will hold a rally/press conference on Saturday, July 22, 11:00am at Monument Square in Portland.
We wanted to have the rally in Poland, but the victims (Linda and Keri) were very uncomfortable having it there, fearing it would further target them. They will be attending the rally in Portland.
Please spread this information far and wide. www.equalitymaine.org
If you have not seen the photos from this hate crime against a lesbian couple, click on the following link and see for yourself. It is shocking that people here in Maine could feel such hatred toward other human beings as to cause this kind of pain and
suffering. Where is this hatred learned?
http://www.unlockablebox.com/ It may be a beautiful summer day on Saturday, but for the victims of this heinous crime, beautiful summer days are over for a while. They need our support and we hope we can count on you to help provide it.
There are two ways you can help:
1) Attend the rally this Saturday to show your support for the victims and outrage at the crime,
2) Make a contribution to the Hate Crime Victims’ Fund to help Linda and Keri get back on their feet. In Linda’s own words: "We aren't sure if we can make ends meet here with all the bills and car payment and rent -- we live on SSI -- we were living good and getting by until all this happened to us -- these [people] really destroyed our life badly.”
To make a contribution to help Linda and Keri, go to EqualityMaine’s website at www.equalitymaine.org, go to the hate crime story and click on Donate Now. Check the box labeled Hate Crime Victims’ Fund. 100% of your donation will be sent directly to Linda and Keri.
This rally is also hosted by the Center for the Prevention of Hate Violence and the Maine Civil Liberties Union.
Sincerely,
Betsy Smith
