Today I replaced the rear sway bar* end links on the Mercedes. These are well-known among Mercedes owners for making a distinctive and really irritating rattle going over bumps when they get play in them, and these had a lot of play. Blew out a water pump - When I went to replace it, parts started crumbling - two more parts orders later, replaced something like $200 or so of parts (Pump, fan clutch, belts, Oil seperator, valley pan and gaskets, valve cover gaskets, etc, etc... ) - Ugh.

... How many cars do you have around at this point?

Only two -- an '81 Mercedes 300TD and a '94 Honda Civic Del Sol.

Sounds a bit like my timing belt job on the Civic, except in that case it was intentional -- it's a good three hours of disassembly to get to the point where I could access the timing belt, tensioner, and water pump, so I figured I was darn well going to replace them all while I was in there.
