The Washington state legislature has
passed a law that will recognize domestic partnerships from other states as valid in Washington. It's sad that this has to be done on a state-by-state basis (really, it ought to be covered by the "full faith and credit" clause of the Constitution) but it's still progress.
On the other hand, the U.S. Citizen and Immigration Service has announced that it will
return to its policy of denying green card requests by same-sex partners of U.S. citizens, stating that the Defense of Marriage Act requires it to do so. The policy had been on hold, awaiting a court decision on the constitutionality of DOMA, but that hold has been lifted, clearing the way for non-citizen same-sex partners to be deported.
