JK as a critic...Part two...

This is a public post...

It is very nice that JK has clarified some of her statements about Snape. But, it still doesn't matter. JK has every right to espouse an opinion of her work, but only that which is in the books is canon. Unless and until it is included within her body of work, specifically in some type of Harry Potter spin off, it has no bearing on the canon. We see this with old interviews and how people expected certain aspects to show up in the books and were disappointed because they never did. JK said someone would do magic late in life. But just because she said so didn't make it canon. It is only canon when it appears in the books and far too many people who analyze these books seem to think that what JK says outside of canon should be considered. I'm sorry, but whether or not what JK says agrees with your opinion or not, it still isn't canon without being in a Harry Potter book.

And just to clarify my own opinion, yes, I am gratified that JK has said that Snape is a hero, anti or otherwise, but the evidence for that was in the books and they still speak for themselves.
