To a certain classmate
You decided that the introductory ecology course was a waste of your time, and pronounced both the class and its instructor "idiotic." You persuaded your advisor to let you take one of the advanced ecology courses instead. Given that you lack even a bowing acquaintance with the basics of population ecology, you expected this to go well...exactly why? Do not expect me to share your apparent surprise that the advanced class is kicking your ass--or your opinion that its professor, too, is an idiot. Thanks to our study session the other day, I've revised my estimate of somebody's intelligence, but it isn't Dr. B.'s, despite my occasional moments of wishing him at the bottom of a pit of rabid voles.
