For the first time since pretty much before the first DVD came out there's some actual
news worth mentioning over on the Hellboy Animated blog. It seems that the third animated Hellboy movie is currently being scripted. It will be called The Phantom Claw (definitely the best title of the three) and will feature Lobster Johnson. It will also purportedly play up the mad scientist/Universal Monster angle of the Hellboy comics more than the others, which sounds promising.
This comes on the heels of the official announcement of the
Lobster Johnson and
Abe Sapien comic mini-series(es). Not to mention the fact that the next B.P.R.D. series should be starting up sometime this month. And the Pan's Labyrinth DVD should be
hitting in May. Lots of big Hellboy (and related) news the last couple of days.
Dark Horse has also posted
some new covers from the B.P.R.D. series and the next Hellboy series Darkness Calls. Personally I think that they are some of the best work Mignola has ever done. Especially the Darkness Calls covers. See
exhibit A and
exhibit B. I am particularly fond of exhibit B.
