It seems that all that was good has died
I have tried writing this post three times, and three times I've scrapped it completely. There's just no way for me to say what needs saying about this comic. (Though I provided it, I caution you not to read what is behind that link if you value your belief that there is anything good in this world.) If I tell you it's the worst thing I've ever seen, indeed perhaps the worst thing that I can even imagine, it'll sound like hyperbole, but if I tell you anything less it will fail to convey the horror of the situation.
Maybe I can get my point across simply by saying this: I've read a lot of comic books in my life, and seen comic book writers and artists do a lot of really stupid, insulting, terrible things. I got into comics, as I've said before, just before the Image boom, probably one of the most creatively bankrupt moments in comic history. And yet never before today have I read anything about a comic that genuinely angered and depressed me in any real or significant way.
By way of simple explanation, the comic book in question is The Dark Knight Returns, only with Spider-Man. And retarded. And the guy war criminal responsible for this atrocity is apparently proud of himself.
Normally at this point I would make flippant, exagerrated, hyperbolic comments about this comic. It would get my point across, more or less, and also be fun for you to read. Perhaps it is the best measure of my outrage that I will not be doing that this time.
