For some guys, the hiding of the cables is an important ritual of masculinity. There are even kits you can buy to help you. But to me, it is a big annoyance unless it is really done properly. I like my cords tidy and accessible. If they are run under pieces of furniture and/or twisted up with other cords, it really displeases me.
