Although I really needed to write an application yesterday (was the last chance), I got waylaid. For some reason, people suddenly start reading my old fiction from 2007 again, and a review yesterday made my fingers itch to start a new one. Which was the perfect excuse to finally make a new book (of which I'd dreamed for weeks already) to make notes for the story in. So I went to town to buy the material and got going.
Indian Summer Journal by ~
Elescave The book has 100 pages, DIN A5. These pages have been painted in yellow ochre and some hints of gold (acrylic paint). Those of you who've already received one of my letters know how I decorate paper. =) I used printing paper of a higher quality, this time (90g/m²). My previous book was done with 80g/m² paper, which frequently causes the writing from the other side of the page to bleed through. No wonder there are so many David Gandy pics adorning it (to cover that). ^^
The binding was done with sewing yarn in a warm tone of violet to contrast the yellowish pages and outer fabric.
The cover was made firm with cardboard and is clad in wild silk. Depending on how the light meets the silk, it either appears in a golden yellow tone or an orange-red. Inside, the cover is clad in red paper.
The book is held together with a dark brown leather string and a button that appears to be wooden (I only realised after buying that it's not, unfortunately) and carries a floral design. The leather string fits the button holes perfectly, so that I can fasten the string by drawing one end through each hole. The button reminds me of tiramisu. Cream coloured with a dark brown covering. ^^
I am not entirely happy with how the cover feels. I will probably add a layer of thick felt between cardboard and silk next time (I've got about two books' worth of this fabric as well as three books' worth of a petrol tone of this fabric left).
Oh, and by the way, for those who are interested but do not read Mr. Gandy's
blog: he's had his acting debut in a short movie alongside Helena Christensen. I admit to not being that thrilled by the end result. Which has little to do with his acting abilities. I think he did okay. The movie, however, doesn't live up to the depth it tries to achieve. I, as a viewer, require more information about the main characters to understand why they feel the way they do, and I think the camera position and tone don't emphasise the feelings the movie tries to transport. It's a passable first movie for him, but it could have been more.
But judge for yourselves:

To be entirely honest, I've been rather lazy of late. Haven't written a single letter or application in the past week. Instead, I'm enjoying C.S. Friedman's 'Black sun rising' very much. I hope I'll get out of my lethargy soon. ;)
