Summary: War altered everything. The world, people, reality. When two young men met each other in a place where they never should be together, something changed. Maybe some people can call it "fate", maybe everything was planned and they were just like a puppets, or maybe it never was important, because both of them lived a lie, but only one of them was aware of it...

“It was my brother.” Yamashita replied on Ryo’s question. “You don’t have to think about it.”
“You have a brother?”
“Yup.”
“So why you came to Tokyo? Why you’re not with him?”
“I’m sorry…” Pi raised his head and looked at his companion. “… are you complaining?”
Ryo laughed, because no, something like complaining, was nonsensical, especially in that moment. At least he got his answer, because that person, still appeared in his mind. Little horns and a tail maybe disappeared, but confusion was still there.
When he heard Pi’s reply, Ryo breathed a sight of relief and gut of air got ruffled Yamashita’s hair. Like before it wasn’t unkempt... In slow motion, Ryo drew circles on Pi’s bare back. It made that the latter relaxed, like last line of resistance vanished when he exhaled Ryo’s fragrance.
Everything happened so fast… Since that moment in abandoned alley, they took few steps as one. Maybe normally someone would called them crazy or easy, but the world they live in, let them be themselves without looking at others. They’ve done what they wanted because they both knew that everything what was important, could be destroyed in one seconds. They already were there, so why they should wait, when all whet they needed, was in that small room. They were young, confused, like annoying people who couldn’t bear not to know what they’ve done, but somehow, with the other, they could make it.
There was still another question in Ryo’s mind when his head dropped back as Yamapi trailed his lips along his jaw. Stupid, stupid curiosity…
“They shouted ‘Kamenashi’, Kame is your friend… Are they somehow connected?”
“Kamenashi is Kame’s father.” Pi said between kisses.
“So why they were after you?”
“It’s Kame’s story, not mine.”
“Fine. So…” Ryo started as he moved closer to Pi. “Where were we before?”

It was raining when Jin roamed neutral zone. With fast peace, trying to not be recognized, he headed towards his destination. Maybe it was rain fault, that unnecessary drama, but when he was there, when he saw how life looked there, he thought that his parents died needlessly.
It wasn’t the world they fought for and even if he was able to live as normal as it was possible, this… this neutral zone, whatever it was, was a mistake. His parents wouldn’t had a hand in it. Jin believed in that with his all heart.
He sighed exasperated when he stood in front of building that was his destination. Jin knocked at the door and waited until movement on the other side announced that soon he will be able get in and dry himself.
“Oh, it’s you.”
“Kame-chan!”
“What are you doing here?”
“I was wondering if Nami is ok… if you are ok.”
“We’re ok, leave.” Kame said hurriedly.
“Oh, come on! Can I come inside? I’m wet and…”
“No.” Kame replied, slamming door behind him. “You will help me.”
“With what?”
“I have to find Pi.”

Young man entered the room, knowing that files which he held, will angered his boss.
“Sir, there is something what you should see.”
“What’s that?”
“New report.”
Kitagawa read page after page and with every word, his face turned grey.
“Sir, should we do something?”
“Just keep an eye on him. And that other brat…”
“Yamashita, sir.”
“Right. If he was someone important, we would know about him much earlier.”
“Understood.”
When man was left alone, he looked at files once again. With anger, he threw sheets on the floor and when he fixed his gaze on a photo that stood on the desk, he said something more:
“So that stupid brat is really like you…”

They headed through center of zone. Kame on lead, hurriedly passing destroyed buildings, Jin right behind him. He saw haste in younger one’s movements, he saw anger, maybe even fear, and Jin wondered why even one of his friends couldn’t be happy and free.
“Is it ok to leave Nami?” Jin broke the silence.
Kame looked at him like at the idiot. “Do you really think that she’s still in town? I send her away?”
“Because of that kidnapping?”
“Oh my! You are so clever!”
“Look, you don’t have to take it out on me!”
Kame stopped and turned around, ready to say something harsh, but in the end he only sighed heavily.
“I’m sorry. I shouldn’t act like that.” Kame raked his fingers through his hair. “Pi told me about you. That you’re acting like a retard, but deep inside, you’re a good person.”
“That’s all me.” Jin smiled, wondering what else Yamashita told about him.
“Don’t push your luck.” He said resuming his walking. “I don’t know… Maybe it’s because of what Pi told me, or maybe not, but I feel that I can trust you.”
“Sure you can!” So ok, maybe Jin should thank Pi later. He could talk about him as much as he wanted.
“But whatever I will tell you, I think that you already know that.” Kame turned his head and knowing smile appeared on his face. “Akanishi Jin, leader of one of families. Everyone think that your right hand is doing your job, but it’s not true, am I right? You’ve done this because you wanted to act freely, gathering information. You’re doing exactly the same, what your parents during the war. Intel.”
“How you know this? Even…”
“Even your friend thinks like the others? We have to know things if we want to survive.”
“True. But who are you people?”
“Well, I’m sure that you know who am I, and about the others… everything in the right time. But you, you need to know ‘why’, and I like it. So the reason why we’re doing it is that because my father wants expel Pi from zone, form town… far away from me.”
“So, where are we going?” Jin asked.
“Pi’s place, because I know that that bastard already know everything, but he don’t care.”

“You have to go.” Pi said. His hand caressed Ryo’s face, like he was trying to remember every detail. Normally Ryo would be annoyed. All girls and theirs sappy action always made that he had a need to puke, but this, with Pi… somehow it was irritatingly endearing, that damned Yamashita’s mojo.
“I don’t want.”
“You’re here since few hours. Don’t you think that someone is worrying about you?”
“Not my problem.” Ryo said. “Maybe tomorrow…”
“Pi!”
They both turned into the direction of that scream, ready to kill that person who interrupted them. It was Kame, all breathless, and Jin, with a malicious smile.
“Pi, are you ok?” Kame asked when he stood right beside him. They stood few meters away from Jin and Ryo, because even if Kame told Jin what and why, he wasn’t sure if Ryo knew about their situation.
“I’m fine, but why?”
“I heard that my father’s men were looking for you again.”
“And they found me.”
“And of course it doesn’t bother you in the least.”
“Of course.”
“Pi…”
“I know, but they can do nothing.” Yamashita said when he rested his hand on Kame’s arm, squeezing it lightly in reassuring gesture. “Look, I’ll be here and even if your father hates me, we can always kick his ass.”
Kame smiled sadly. “Oh, I can see that. But wait! What is he doing here?” He said pointing at Ryo.
“Ryo-chan left school earlier, because he was worried, right Ryo-chan?” Jin mocked. “But I didn’t know, that checking up on someone can last for about few hours.”
Even Ryo’s ears were red when he was thinking on answer, but Pi beat him to it.
“Oh, it’s all because of exercises. Nishikido wanted to know if his stitches are really good, so he forced me to exercising. And since he was observing me very closely, I can say that he made a good job.”
“In what? Stitches or that second part.”
“Both, you know?” Pi winked at Ryo. “Both.”
Jin and Kame laughed loudly, because Ryo’s embarrassment was kind of cute. They didn’t judge. Their friends were happy, and that was all what mattered. Jin thought that for the first time he saw Ryo. That real one, because when everyday Ryo was hiding in his own world, trying to not involve in everything what he could lost, he was another guy among thousands, not Nishikido Ryo. Nothing sucked worse than feeling alone, no matter how many people were around.
Seeing that transformation, Jin wondered why he couldn’t do that. Everything was because of that strange guy. Everything because of Yamashita.
“We should go. It’s pretty late and I don’t wanna have any problems.” Jin said to Ryo.
“Yeah, you’re right.” He moved closer to Pi and kissed him. “Bye. Go, you’re shivering. Are you cold?”
“Eh? Maybe a little.”
“Funny.” Jin said. “I’ve got this strange feeling, that someone’s watching us.”
“Use to it. It’s neutral zone.” Kame replied. “Come on. I will go with you.”
When they moved slowly away from Yamashita, Ryo turned around to see him for the last time before he would left zone, but Pi wasn’t there.
And so again, the ghost disappeared.

In fast pace, Pi was walking in the opposite direction than his friends. He wasn’t shivering because of cold. Reason lay somewhere different. Maybe it was karma, when after something good, bad things came around.
Finally, he reached his destination. Old park, or at least it was someday. Untended, overgrown, scary, but for him, it was perfect. Pi waited, because it wasn’t something what he could defer. In some way he was happy, because it meant that they finally moved forward, but he was also afraid, because he could lost everything again.
Calmly he watched entrance to the park and when he saw that familiar figure, he got a grip on himself.
“Running? You’re a bad boy.” Newcomer asked.
“I'm not. I’m trying to take you away from them.” Pi turned and looked at his companion. “Why you’re here?”
“Because in next week, I will change this world.” New guy moved closer to Pi and hugged him.
“Oh…” Yamashita muttered.
“What? You’re not ready? We’ve been waiting for this!”
“No, it’s not that. So fast… I always knew what we wanted, but now it seems a bit surreal.”
“Oh, and I though that’s all because of that guy.” He stopped trying to look into Pi’s eyes. His speculations confirmed when Yamashita averted his face from him. “You screwed up, Tomohisa. Tell me… are you in love with him?”
“I’ve done what I had to. That’s all.”
“That’s not an answer on my question.” Men stopped for a while, thinking about his next words. They’ve planned this since the beginning, and he couldn’t imagine how it would be without Pi, but he couldn’t allow any failures. “Because if you are, then I think that we should say goodbye.”
Yamapi raised his head, trying to catch a glimpse of stars, but it was impossible. He thought about his childhood, about that person who stood right next to him, person, who always was there, when Pi needed him. He though about their goal, about that force which kept them alive…
He thought about Ryo, and Pi was glad that because of dark, the latter couldn’t decipher his emotions. Yamashita couldn’t lie to him, it was the only person in the entire world, who was able to read in him like in open book and in that moment, for the first time, Pi wish they were so close.
“I’m not in love with him. Whatever you think… he need to make a decision, and don’t you think that because of me, our chances raised?”
“You know, I think it’s not fair to you”
“Let me decide what’s fair to me.” Yamashita replied and started walking. Not alone, because the other was right next to him when they faded away in the night.

Ryo didn’t see Yamapi since he left him in zone. Kame told him that was normal, that he should use to it, because Pi did it sometimes. He was there when in next second, he vanished. Nishikido thought that maybe it was because of Kame’s father, so maybe Yamashita did that because he wanted to protect Kame, give him a breather and time to settle things.
That day, when the three of them were together, Kame told them everything. The truth.
His father was in some way governor of zone. Even if in ‘normal’ part of Tokyo people didn’t know about it, in zone something like that was normal. They needed someone who would care about them.
Kame thought that this was his opportunity to change things, that his father, who always wished for better world, will be with him. That didn’t happen. His father became puppet of families. He stopped looking for others, every change was welcomed with disapproval and that metamorphosis was like a bucket of cold water thrown in Kame’s face.
At the beginning Kame took advantage of his new status. He found a place where orphans were able to live as normal as it was possible. He taught them. Reading, mathematics… basic stuff, but for them it was like different world. They were happy so Kame tried to do something more on his own, but his father stopped him every time. He didn’t care about his son, only money, more money… that was all what was in his mind. He was afraid that if families would knew about his son’s actions, he would lost his power… In some way Kame lost his father.
Then was Nami. Her parents were hounded out of the zone. Crime? They stole some food. Not a big felony, but one of Kame’s father flunkeys discovered them. They could take Nami with them, but they thought that in bigger city, she will be able to survive. So they left, leaving their only child because of Kamenashi’s promise that he will take care of her.
And then it happened. As soon as they left Tokyo, Kamenashi ordered to kill child. He told that he didn’t want to feed another scrounger, but who knew the real reason?
For Kame it was too much. He was fed up with that life, with his father’s obsession, with that person who wasn’t his parent anymore. When he got a chance, he took Nami and moved out. Since that day they were offside. Kamenashi couldn’t forgive Kame that he betrayed him. Every day was like a fight when they were tracked down and even if it was like a hell, Kame never regretted what he did. Especially when Pi came.
Since Kazuya left house, he didn’t knew about newcomers in zone. They shouldn’t met, but somehow their paths crossed, so maybe it was fate? One day Kame saw Pi, when he was fighting, trying to protect pregnant woman. He was new then, Yamashita didn’t knew that he fought against Kame’s father men, and maybe because of that, Kame joined him then.
Slowly, from one punch to another, from one word to one more, they became unit. Kame’s world changed. It helped that Yamashita was in love with Nami and he tried his best to protect her. With Pi’s help, Kame was able to oppose his father’s troops. They organized a group which was like a real guardians. They cared, they loved each other, like a big family. For Kame, Pi was like a older brother…
That was the reason why Kamenashi hated Yamashita. He thought that with the time, Kame would give up, that he would come back, like a kicked puppy, but with Pi, that scenario was impossible. So he chased him, like he was the worst thug, but even with his all hatred, he couldn’t beat Pi.

“We’re too early.” Younger one said during scanning district through the sight. “No one’s here.”
“I know. We have to wait a bit.” The other looked at his companion. “You know, it’s the last time when you can withdraw.”
“That’s not an option.”
“Look, you still can live like you want. You can be happy.”
“I can’t. Besides… I owe it to you.”
“So you’re sure?”
“We’re in this together.”
“That’s my boy. And remember - close doesn’t count, so be precise.”

“And, like I reported last time, everything here, is like it should be. Crime figures are much lower than last time, quality of life raised… We’re moving forward, Kitagawa-san.”
Ryo was with his uncle, sitting in Kamenashi’s house and listening to report. Well, he didn’t listen to him, he rather observed that man who was the reason of Kame’s misery and Pi’s troubles. Hypocritical, old man who tried to please Kitagawa. He didn’t tell the truth and judging from Kitagawa’s expression, Ryo’s uncle was aware of those lies.
“And how is your son?” Kitagawa asked.
“I’m sorry that he isn’t here, but his duties, were more important.”
“That’s too bad. I wanted to see him.”
Ryo wasn’t sure why his uncle played with Kamenashi. He wasn’t even sure why it was called ‘an inspection’. They didn’t inspect a thing. In armored cars, they passed through zone. Without any stop, without looking and talking with people who lived there… it was a farce. Ryo only couldn’t figure why his uncle let him be there.
At least he understood why Kame and Pi fought. Pi… he missed him. Every day, Ryo was in zone, hoping that he would met him, but that didn’t happen. Uncertainty was driving him crazy. True, that he didn’t know his since forever, but he knew one thing - that Yamashita was responsible, and his absence, that time when he wasn’t there, ready to help those who he loved, was disturbing.
Even when they left Kamenashi, when they were getting back home, all what Ryo could do, was looking at the streets, searching for Pi’s figure, because maybe with some luck, he would see him.
But things didn’t go smooth. Suddenly, all what Ryo could hear, was a loud rumble, and in one second, driver lost control of the steering wheel. Luckily no one was hurt, maybe only bodyguards would end with some bruises, but that was all.
Quickly they got off the car trying to estimate damages, but all what happened, was a puncture. Sure that they could get on another car, but that one was special. It was Ryo’s father car, all what remained after him… Ryo was furious. He was sure that if they would left car, he wouldn’t be able to retrieve it.
Suddenly on of bodyguard shouted: “Kitagawa-san! Please look at that roof!”
They all looked in pointed direction. On the opposite side of road, Ryo saw two men on the roof. Straightened up, proudly, like in any moment they would got a medal. With smiles, and with sniping in their hands, they waved impudently. So probably they were was the ones responsible for their crash and whatever reason they got, Ryo was sure that they were serious.
And one of them… it was Pi.

“I'm not. I’m trying to take you away from them.” Pi turned and looked at his companion. “Why you’re here?”
“Because in next week, I will change this world.” New guy moved closer to Pi and hugged him.
“Oh…” Yamashita muttered.
“What? You’re not ready? We’ve been waiting for this!”
“No, it’s not that. So fast… I always knew what we wanted, but now it seems a bit surreal.”
“Oh, and I though that’s all because of that guy.” He stopped trying to look into Pi’s eyes. His speculations confirmed when Yamashita averted his face from him. “You screwed up, Tomohisa. Tell me… are you in love with him?”
“I’ve done what I had to. That’s all.”
“That’s not an answer on my question.” Men stopped for a while, thinking about his next words. They’ve planned this since the beginning, and he couldn’t imagine how it would be without Pi, but he couldn’t allow any failures. “Because if you are, then I think that we should say goodbye.”
Yamapi raised his head, trying to catch a glimpse of stars, but it was impossible. He thought about his childhood, about that person who stood right next to him, person, who always was there, when Pi needed him. He though about their goal, about that force which kept them alive…
He thought about Ryo, and Pi was glad that because of dark, the latter couldn’t decipher his emotions. Yamashita couldn’t lie to him, it was the only person in the entire world, who was able to read in him like in open book and in that moment, for the first time, Pi wish they were so close.
“I’m not in love with him. Whatever you think… he need to make a decision, and don’t you think that because of me, our chances raised?”
“You know, I think it’s not fair to you”
“Let me decide what’s fair to me.” Yamashita replied and started walking. Not alone, because the other was right next to him when they faded away in the night.

Ryo didn’t see Yamapi since he left him in zone. Kame told him that was normal, that he should use to it, because Pi did it sometimes. He was there when in next second, he vanished. Nishikido thought that maybe it was because of Kame’s father, so maybe Yamashita did that because he wanted to protect Kame, give him a breather and time to settle things.
That day, when the three of them were together, Kame told them everything. The truth.
His father was in some way governor of zone. Even if in ‘normal’ part of Tokyo people didn’t know about it, in zone something like that was normal. They needed someone who would care about them.
Kame thought that this was his opportunity to change things, that his father, who always wished for better world, will be with him. That didn’t happen. His father became puppet of families. He stopped looking for others, every change was welcomed with disapproval and that metamorphosis was like a bucket of cold water thrown in Kame’s face.
At the beginning Kame took advantage of his new status. He found a place where orphans were able to live as normal as it was possible. He taught them. Reading, mathematics… basic stuff, but for them it was like different world. They were happy so Kame tried to do something more on his own, but his father stopped him every time. He didn’t care about his son, only money, more money… that was all what was in his mind. He was afraid that if families would knew about his son’s actions, he would lost his power… In some way Kame lost his father.
Then was Nami. Her parents were hounded out of the zone. Crime? They stole some food. Not a big felony, but one of Kame’s father flunkeys discovered them. They could take Nami with them, but they thought that in bigger city, she will be able to survive. So they left, leaving their only child because of Kamenashi’s promise that he will take care of her.
And then it happened. As soon as they left Tokyo, Kamenashi ordered to kill child. He told that he didn’t want to feed another scrounger, but who knew the real reason?
For Kame it was too much. He was fed up with that life, with his father’s obsession, with that person who wasn’t his parent anymore. When he got a chance, he took Nami and moved out. Since that day they were offside. Kamenashi couldn’t forgive Kame that he betrayed him. Every day was like a fight when they were tracked down and even if it was like a hell, Kame never regretted what he did. Especially when Pi came.
Since Kazuya left house, he didn’t knew about newcomers in zone. They shouldn’t met, but somehow their paths crossed, so maybe it was fate? One day Kame saw Pi, when he was fighting, trying to protect pregnant woman. He was new then, Yamashita didn’t knew that he fought against Kame’s father men, and maybe because of that, Kame joined him then.
Slowly, from one punch to another, from one word to one more, they became unit. Kame’s world changed. It helped that Yamashita was in love with Nami and he tried his best to protect her. With Pi’s help, Kame was able to oppose his father’s troops. They organized a group which was like a real guardians. They cared, they loved each other, like a big family. For Kame, Pi was like a older brother…
That was the reason why Kamenashi hated Yamashita. He thought that with the time, Kame would give up, that he would come back, like a kicked puppy, but with Pi, that scenario was impossible. So he chased him, like he was the worst thug, but even with his all hatred, he couldn’t beat Pi.

“We’re too early.” Younger one said during scanning district through the sight. “No one’s here.”
“I know. We have to wait a bit.” The other looked at his companion. “You know, it’s the last time when you can withdraw.”
“That’s not an option.”
“Look, you still can live like you want. You can be happy.”
“I can’t. Besides… I owe it to you.”
“So you’re sure?”
“We’re in this together.”
“That’s my boy. And remember - close doesn’t count, so be precise.”

“And, like I reported last time, everything here, is like it should be. Crime figures are much lower than last time, quality of life raised… We’re moving forward, Kitagawa-san.”
Ryo was with his uncle, sitting in Kamenashi’s house and listening to report. Well, he didn’t listen to him, he rather observed that man who was the reason of Kame’s misery and Pi’s troubles. Hypocritical, old man who tried to please Kitagawa. He didn’t tell the truth and judging from Kitagawa’s expression, Ryo’s uncle was aware of those lies.
“And how is your son?” Kitagawa asked.
“I’m sorry that he isn’t here, but his duties, were more important.”
“That’s too bad. I wanted to see him.”
Ryo wasn’t sure why his uncle played with Kamenashi. He wasn’t even sure why it was called ‘an inspection’. They didn’t inspect a thing. In armored cars, they passed through zone. Without any stop, without looking and talking with people who lived there… it was a farce. Ryo only couldn’t figure why his uncle let him be there.
At least he understood why Kame and Pi fought. Pi… he missed him. Every day, Ryo was in zone, hoping that he would met him, but that didn’t happen. Uncertainty was driving him crazy. True, that he didn’t know his since forever, but he knew one thing - that Yamashita was responsible, and his absence, that time when he wasn’t there, ready to help those who he loved, was disturbing.
Even when they left Kamenashi, when they were getting back home, all what Ryo could do, was looking at the streets, searching for Pi’s figure, because maybe with some luck, he would see him.
But things didn’t go smooth. Suddenly, all what Ryo could hear, was a loud rumble, and in one second, driver lost control of the steering wheel. Luckily no one was hurt, maybe only bodyguards would end with some bruises, but that was all.
Quickly they got off the car trying to estimate damages, but all what happened, was a puncture. Sure that they could get on another car, but that one was special. It was Ryo’s father car, all what remained after him… Ryo was furious. He was sure that if they would left car, he wouldn’t be able to retrieve it.
Suddenly on of bodyguard shouted: “Kitagawa-san! Please look at that roof!”
They all looked in pointed direction. On the opposite side of road, Ryo saw two men on the roof. Straightened up, proudly, like in any moment they would got a medal. With smiles, and with sniping in their hands, they waved impudently. So probably they were was the ones responsible for their crash and whatever reason they got, Ryo was sure that they were serious.
And one of them… it was Pi.

A/N: Sorry that I'm posting this chapter so late, but it wasn't because I'm lazy. I'm not.
Well, in every free moment that i got, I watched all seasons of Scrubs, so I was on emotional rollercoaster and writing... I didn't hink abou it. Anyway, as always, I hope that you like it xD.
