Chapter 1

Chapter 2

“Hello?”

“It’s me. What do you want?””

“So harsh… I missed you Tomohisa.”

“Like I believe you.”

“… How is it going?”

“Oh, it’s fine. He don’t suspect a thing.”

“We should just kill him.” Yamashita almost felt grin on the other side of line. “I can kill him.”

“No, you can’t. We need him.” Yamashita sighted exasperated. “Besides, he isn’t our goal.”

“I know… I’m just bored, you know? Maybe I should be with you?”

“Don’t even think about it. You can destroy everything!”

“Yeah, yeah… Whatever. I’ll call you later, ok?”

“You don’t have to!”

“I love you too. Bye!”

Yamashita hanged up thinking about what he should do.

-----------------

Something definitely wasn’t right, or perhaps it never was? True that Yamashita always intrigued Ryo. He was like something exotic, like something forbidden, but Ryo thought that it was because of his status. Or maybe it wasn’t the case, because how could it be, if after a week since Ryo saw that fight, he couldn’t get rid of those images that was played his mind. He couldn’t get rid of his thoughts about Yamashita…

Yamashita was a dangerous man, that was Ryo conclusion. He definitely was hiding something too. And how Ryo could be wrong, when he saw the proof? Almost everyday Yamashita was bullied in school, sometimes even beaten up and left alone without any help. But he never said a thing, he never fought back even if he could, and Ryo was sure that Yamashita was better in that than most of other guys from families.

Ryo thought how an Outcast could learn that? Maybe he fought in a war too, but if he did that then why he wasn’t united? So there was another option - he could be a part of some family and then left, but that was rather most unlikely. If that scenario was real, then Ryo would know about it, because yes, he asked through his net if anyone ever heard about Yamashita and there was no one.

Like Yamashita The Fighter never existed. Like a myth…

-----------------

Another boring day in school and probably that would never change. But boredom was good, it calmed Ryo like nothing else. He liked those moments in the evening when everyone were ready to go back to their homes, because there was something sincere in their actions, like they were really happy that soon they would meet with their parents. And there was he too, especially he, who always…

“Ryo-chan, are you there?”

Ryo looked at that person who prodded him on the shoulder and oh yes, that idiot…

“Eh?”

“You look a bit lost.”

“Jin, you’re often with Yamashita… What do you think about him?”

“Why?”

“I’m curious?”

Jin looked at him questioningly, but that was his only response, like he knew better than Ryo but he preferred to keep that for himself.

“Well, I don’t know… Maybe because he’s like me?”

“Like you?”

“You know - orphan, lonely, ready to face the world.”

“You’re not alone.”

“I am. At least in the same way as he is.” Jin sat next to Ryo and gazed at his hands. “When I lost my parent, I had to grow up. Too fast. But I’m not the only one. I was prepared for something like that since I was a kid, to take over the responsibilities and all that stuff.” He stopped for a moment and looked at Ryo. ”Do you know why I was happy when war ended? Not because I didn’t had to fight anymore, well that too, but I was happy that I could let go. And I don’t know, but when I’m talking with him, I don’t have to pay attention that I’m Akanishi Jin.”

In some way Ryo understood that. He was the same. When his father died, everyone expected that Ryo would take his place, but something like that never happened, not when Kitagawa saved him. Uncle told Ryo that he knew that he would fit for that role, but he was too young and so Ryo didn’t have to bear with responsibility when Kitagawa substituted him until Ryo will be ready.

But Jin… he was different, he lived in different reality than Ryo. He was always taught, even before the war, what and how he should live to not disgrace the name of Akanishi. Maybe when war started, in fight he could blow off the steam and perhaps because of that he was so good.

When his parents died, he should take the lead, he should do everything what he was always told to do, but maybe it was already too much? Maybe that’s why he ignored all and withdraw himself? When the whole society thought that he was the leader who stood in the shadows, Jin indeed was in shadows but as himself. One of his trusted man took care of that matter and somehow everything worked fine. Jin - a little rebel…

But that’s why Ryo liked Jin, because he stood against the odds, in some way against the custom, and he was happy. Maybe one day he will be back, maybe again he will stand in the light, but so what? Ryo doubted that that one Jin who was sitting next to him will ever lost himself again and even if he will, the Ryo will be there to kick his ass.

“You mean that you have to do that when you’re talking with me?”

“Shut up! You know me, I know you. But others don’t, they don’t treat me like you or like he. I was cursed, no, I still am, but Yamashita never judged me, never. And he’s a good hang, you know? You would like him.”

“I doubt it.”

“This is what I don’t like about you. Just open you’re eyes. You care too much. I know that you don’t talk with him because of ‘I’m Nishikido and he’s no one’. Seriously, do you have any idea in what conditions he lives? Do you ever was in neutral zone?”

Ryo looked at Jin with surprise in his eyes. “No, why should I? Don’t tell me that you were.”

“Of course I was! You’re always telling how great your father was and that you wanna be like him and sorry, but if you will look but not watch, you never will be like him.”

“Jin…”

“No, seriously Ryo. Open you damn eyes.” Jin shouted and that for the first time when Ryo saw him so exasperated. ”God, now I have a headache.”

“You didn’t sleep again?”

“Nope, I said too much smart things…”

“Jin, you…”

Ryo couldn’t end his sentence. Not when someone shouted with all his might: “PI!”

They both looked in the direction of front gates, exactly where he stood. That guy who shouted. For Ryo, he wasn’t a stranger, he already met him before.

They saw running Yamashita, they saw concern and maybe even anger. Too bad that they didn’t heard a thing because they both were curious.

-----------------

Yamashita was slowly packing his things when he heard that.

“PI!”

Without thinking he grabbed his bag and hurriedly run into the direction of gates. He knew that voice and presence of that person in that part of town, meant only one thing. Troubles.

He was almost without a breath when he stood before his unexpected guest.

“What are you doing here?” Yamashita breathed heavily “Toma, what’s wrong?”

“You have to go with me.”

“But what’s wrong?”

“Those guys you beat up… They came back. They wreck up few rooms, and…”

“And what? What, Toma?”

“They took Nami!”

“Fuck!”

“I know where they are. Rest of guys went there, but they waiting for you.”

“So let’s go. We can’t waste time.”

-----------------

“You think that we should go after them?”

“Why?”

“To feel a thrill of excitement?”

“… Fine, but if anything will happen, it’s your fault.”

“Shut up and move your ass.”

-----------------

They run as fast as they could because they didn’t had any time. Nami, and Toma and rest of those people were like a family, he loved them.

When Yamashita came to Tokyo, he was pretty lucky. He found a place to live, where he wasn’t afraid that maybe someone would stab him when he slept. He heard that before a war it was a little motel, but when for the first time he stood in front of the building, all what he saw, was ruined. Good thing that it was a quiet place. In rooms that were suitable for living, were usually children and older people. But maybe that’s why he felt there so good, maybe that’s why he felt there like at home and because of that he tried to protect them.

Slowly he get to know them. Toma was his neighbor and the first of residents who talked to him. Usually Toma didn’t belong to that group of people whit whom Yamashita would consider ‘friendship’, but maybe they were just too confused and because of that they created that bond connecting them… But there were others and Yamashita treated them all like someone between brother and friends, because if he didn’t then he would be too lonely.

Nami was the same. She didn’t live with there, but she was a very lively girl with bad luck of being sister of a guy who tried to restore any order and many people didn’t like that, even if that guy failed. So she was young, defenseless… perfect for revenge.

Yamashita shook off his thoughts when they were near those batstards’ hideout. He looked around, searching for others, but no one was there. Maybe he should think about some plan, but then, in situation like that one, improvisation was the best. Old building, warehouse with space and with many places to hide. It shouldn’t be difficult, he beaten them without trouble. But now Nami was there too and that complicated some things.

“Toma, are you sure that’s the right place?”

“Of course!”

“So where are they?”

“Do you think that they went inside without waiting for you?”

“Those idiots! Toma, you wait here.”

“What? No! I’m going with you!”

“Listen to me. You can’t fight and if you’ll go there, I won’t be able to focus.”

“Yeah, fine. But Pi…”

“What?” Yamashita said annoyed. But that feeling went away when he saw Toma’s face.

“Be careful.”

Yamashita smiled “Of course.”

-----------------

“What now?”

“We’re going in?”

“I swear that some day I will kill you.”

“Oh, so sweet… Let’s go.”

-----------------

Inside the building was dark but that was good. Everything worked of benefit to Yamashita. He was used to that, he already done that million times… He moved carefully, tried to be unnoticeable when at the same time he was searching for his friends. He noticed no one and Yamashita hoped that they were ok…

He crouched behind some boxes and looked into the direction of the only light in whole warehouse. They were at the center of building, Nami and guys who kidnapped her. She cried, tied to old chair and Yamashita’s blood boiled when he noticed trace of blood on the floor.

He waited for right moment to attack, but his friends were first to act. When Yamashita stood up, ready to join the fight, he noted that he should kick their asses later.

And so the fun began…

-----------------

“What we should do?”

“Join?”

“You really think like that?”

“Well… yeah.”

“Just sit on you ass and wait for the moment.”

“Yes sir!”

“Shut up.”

-----------------

Yamashita shouted, trying to organize them but his friends were too lost in fight and nothing got through them. Theoretically it should be easy, he knew abilities of his friends, but those guys who took Nami had friends too. Much better than them and so things didn’t go as smooth as they should.

Yamashita fought too, clearing the way and slowly, one blow after another, and soon he stood in front of Nami.

He took advantage of commotion when he untied Nami telling her to hide. She cried, but maybe because of adrenaline she listened to him and run without second thought and when she finally disappeared, Yamashita could focus.

He wasn’t merciful, he was pissed off. Involving a child was below the belt, a sight of cowardice. If they had acted like a men, accept their defeat with respect like they should, maybe then he would respect their will for revenge, but when they acted like they did, Yamashita only pitied them. Scums…

Slowly they outnumbered the enemy and they thought that victory belong to them. Yamashita thought that too and because of that he relaxed a bit. Unnecessarily, because his senses loosened too and he wasn’t able to notice one of those thugs who sneaked up on him from behind. He realized what was going on a bit too late - when he felt the head of knife.

He shouted. It wasn’t from pain, more like it was from disappointment that he allowed on that. Yamashita knew that kind of stab. It was much more painful and humiliating than threatening his life. He knew, because it wasn’t his first one.

He turned around, ready to get Medieval on his assailant’s ass but that guy was already wracked with pain and that one who did that was…

“Akanishi!”

“Hello!” his savior said with big smile.

“What… How…”

“We saw you at school and thought that something happened so we followed you.”

“We?”

“Ryo-chan is here too. I think that he went after that girl… Oh, there they are!”

Yamashita looked in the right direction and took a deep breath. She was all right, still shaking a bit, but all right. His friends too. Some of them wounded, but nothing vital.

Nami saw him and in one blink of eye, she tackled him. Yamashita laughed aloud because he was relief that everything went fine and holding her in arms was the best award. He didn’t care about the pain, he didn’t care at all. She was smiling through the tears and that was all what he dreamed about.

Jin was observing those two and even if it was a cute image, he thought about something different. He noticed Yamashita’s friend, Toma, who cried too when he was hugging the kid. He noticed other guys sprawled on the floor, exhausted from fighting. He noticed Ryo who stood next to him, apparently thinking about something too.

“She should go, take a rest.” Jin said.

Yamashita nodded. “Nami, will you go with Toma?”

“But Pi-chan… you…”

“Go. Everything is fine. I’m fine too.” He added still smiling.

Nami nodded and grabbed Toma’s hand who still looked worried, but he knew that Yamashita was right. He gazed at him, sending some sort of message that was readable only for them, and led Nami out of the building.

“Eh… that was cute.”

Yamashita looked at Jin who still followed them with his eyes.

“You know Yamashita? You should smile more often. You have beautiful smile.”

Ryo looked at his friend with confusion in his eyes because he didn’t know what Jin had on his mind, but he didn't care, not when when he was kneeling next to Yamashita, caressing his face.

“Really beautiful. But you know?” He stopped for a moment when he was pulling out the gun in order to aim at Yamashita. “I don’t care about it too much. But who the hell are you?”

Yamashita looked at the gun, thinking about possibilities but then he was saved too. Smile again crept on his face when he heard metallic sound of releasing the safety catch of another gun. Probably Jin’s expression when he saw what was going on helped too, when he saw barrel that was put to Ryo's head.

“I think…” Person with calm voice said. “… that in this moment you should put your gun away and politely apologize. Because you know? Trigger is a bit upset and I really don’t know if you will be ok.”

Yup, Jin’s terrified eyes, definitely helped too...
