Trent has been begging me to make apple crisp, so that's what I did tonight. It is sooooooo yummy...and if you cut back on the sugar a bit, it's sort of healthy. Here's how to make it (complete with helpful pictures).
1. Set the oven to 350 F.
2. Thinly slice 7 or 8 sour apples (I like Granny Smith) and put them in an ungreased 9 x 13 pan. I don't bother peeling the skin off. I'm too lazy.
3. Combine 3/4 cup white sugar, 1 tbsp white flour, 1 tsp cinnamon, and 1/2 tsp allspice. Mix them together.
4. Sprinkle the mixture over the apples. Add 1/2 cup water (sprinkle evenly).
5. Mix 1 cup whole oats, 1 cup white flour, and 1 cup packed brown sugar.
6. Add 1/4 tsp baking soda and 1/4 tsp baking powder to the oats/flour/sugar mixture.
7. Melt 1/2 cup butter (you can use a little less if you want to) and add it to the oat/flour mixture. Mmmmmm. Crunchy apple crisp topping!
8. Sprinkle the mixture over the apples and put them in the oven for 45 minutes.
