Apparently I'm the only person who doesn't follow WWE, because I was scrolling down my friends page looking for a post, and two of my friends (who were sitting behind me, anticipating the fruits of my search), saw your post and both went 'HOLY SHIT, Chris Benoit is dead???!?!?!?'.

Just thought I'd share.

also slightly weirded out by the 11-year old kid I taught a saxophone lesson to earlier today who was really bummed out that all his favorite people were dying, and he mentioned Chris Benoit.

Am I the only person on Earth who's never heard of this guy?

He was very industry-specific. He's one of those guys that you wouldn't have heard of, if you weren't into pro wrestling or a native Canadian, because being a famous Canadian wrestler was all he was really ever renowned for. However, Benoit was so influential in modern pro wrestling, that even the most casual fan of wrestling, around the world, knows of him. In the industry, having a "Benoit-like" match is considered a great compliment.

I just wonder if it's true, what people are saying...that he killed his wife and son, then killed himself.

It's hard to say because there are still several conflicting stories going around, on top of the preliminary police reports, many of which seem contrary to Chris and/or Nancy's character. Although I've only personally run into Chris Benoit twice, and only incidentally, I've had conversations with a lot of his friends in the business (Lance "Storm" Evers, Perry "Saturn" Satullo, Chavo Guerrero, Troy "Shane Douglas" Martin, Adam "Edge" Copeland, Darren "William Regal" Matthews and a few other less common ECW, WCW and NJPW alumni) who support how irregular it would be for either Chris Benoit or Nancy Daus Benoit to go crazy. But, then, Chris has always kept his personal business largely to himself, so it's hard for anyone to say for sure what was going on in their home. Hopefully the official police findings will answer more questions.
