New Spam Record - I Received 9149 Junk Emails In 5 Hours!

Would you take a look at that? 9149 spam emails, in my Deleted Items folder... All delivered within only 5 hours. That's a new record, by almost 2000 pieces! On average, we get around 1000 pieces of junk email an hour, with a few spikes here and there, to three of five old email addresses used to register several domains through our old buddies at Network Solutions.

Somewhere in 1999 or 2000, NetSol sold out the list, or maybe someone broke in and took it... However it went down, shortly afterward, it seems every email addresses in Network Solutions' user database got added to just about every spam email list on the planet. Nice job guys! This screw-up, on top of NetSol being a royal pain in the ass to work with and other controversies (particularly subdomain hijacking), makes it no wonder why GoDaddy and other registrars kicked their ass so quickly, when their monopoly on domain name registration was broken up.

Fortunately, after the spam started pouring in, it was easy to set up filters so 99% of it automatically get dumped. Only around 10 unsolicited spam messages, each hour, slips through - which I then use to update to our email filter. We get almost no false positives, either - maybe only one or two a week. Our hosting plan affords us soooooo much bandwidth for email, it's not really a concern. It actually becomes amusing to watch, and marvel at the grand scale Network Solutions f'ed the pooch, sometimes.

business, douchebags
