Since my budget is really tight, I haven't been able to donate very much this quarter to animal charities, so I figured I'd at least help spread the word... The cost of feed has shot up in recent months, with the U.S. Department of Agriculture reporting the cost of hay having risen from $160 per ton in 2006 to $235 per ton last week. This has lead to more abandoned, neglected or surrendered horses than equine rescuers can handle.
In response to this, the
ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) has created an
Emergency Hay Fund, providing vital financial assistance to horse sanctuaries. Every dollar is used exclusively to provide grants to struggling horse sanctuaries and rescue organizations.
