D.C. vs. Heller - D.C. Gun Ban Gets Pwned By Supreme Court Ruling!

The Supreme Court of the United State affirmed, in a 5 to 4 ruling, that the District of Columbia handgun ban is an unconstitutional infringement of the Second Amendment of the United States Constitution.

As well, it also affirms the position that the Second Amendment protects the right of individuals to possess firearms for private use. Per the SCOTUS 07-290 syllabus, "The Second Amendment protects an individual right to possess a firearm unconnected with service in a militia, and to use that arm for traditional lawful purposes, such as self-defense within the home."

This hits close to home, where Chicago has a similar handgun ban - which is now considered unconstitutional by these set standards. It's probably only a matter of time before a lawsuit is filed in Chicago, and Daley starts feeling the heat... As if all of the recently documented gun violence against Chicago citizens, wasn't an obvious enough sign that the gun ban wasn't working. At present, only criminals can have guns, in Chicago. Hopefully, the gun laws will be amended in favor of law-abiding citizens, and even the odds against violent criminals.
